I know that technically I'm not required to initiate an address change with either EX or EQ, but I just moved and need the address on those two reports to be updated to my new address as quickly as possible, I don't have the time to wait over a month for creditors to report the address change. I've seen conflicting info about doing this over the phone with these two companies, so has anyone here done it over the phone, can it be done, and other than the standard identifying personal info, is there any other info/documents that I need to have ready?
"If you need your new address to appear on your sooner, you can submit documentation to Experian showing proof of your new address, such as a copy of your electric bill or bank statement along with a copy of your photo ID. Simply let Experian know you would like to have your new address added to your credit history."https://www.experian.com/blogs/ask-experian/changing-your-address-on-your-credit-report/
"Equifax requires you to send a letter stating the address change and provide two qualifying documents proving you have a new address. These documents are typically bills being sent to your new address"

Thank you for that. I found those as well, but neither seem to say anything about phone calls, which I'd really prefer. Are you aware of phone options?
@dfreemanspartanUpdate your address with all your creditors. The creditor will update the address at the credit bureaus.
Yes thank you, I'm aware that is the proper procedure, but like I said I need it updated much faster than the 30-45 days that it will take doing it the updating the creditors way.
Thats they're policy. They want proof from documents. Anyone could call and be you. That would create a whole new mess.
Thanks for your insight. Guess I'm just really surprised that in the year 2023 we're still relying on snail mail for things. Can't remember the last time I had to buy stamps. Seems like there should be a mix of secure document upload and verification screening that would prevent fraudsters from abusing things like this.
@dfreemanspartan Their problem with having the bureaus update the address. The problem is as soonas your creditor(s) report your account the address will change back to what it was before.

I'm not sure about EQUIFAX, but I received this link (Nov '22) in an email from EXPERIAN *after* I contacted them about a collection that was reporting incorrectly. I never followed thru, but I kept the email. You may be able to submit your docs this way instead of postal mail. The web address is experian.com/upload. I would call and confirm first. You can also find out how long it will take to process your request if you use this site/portal. Screen shots below. The dropdown options for page 2 are:
Support Docs - for My Dispute
Proof of Identity - Request Credit Report
Police Report Identity Theft
