Re: Success

wmarat, you're former active duty, aren't you? Although maybe not the way that they envision. Smiley Wink

Hauling just sent me one of those very nice PMs from a mod we all love to receive. She said, as soon as she has an access number to NFCU you can move in with her and will sponsor you then.Smiley Wink

When you call the main number ( 888/842/6328) you are calling:

NFCU

Merrifield VA 22119

It is my understanding all applications, membership or credit products, are approved there.

btw...I have been meaning to mention, to you for some time, I sure envy your posting panache! Sure do wish you could send some my way.Smiley Very Happy

"Posting panache", huh? Well, that's certainly the kindest description I've heard of it! Smiley Very Happy

Don't know why you're fussing --you have great posts. Unlike, umm, mine, yours are short, and clear, and to the point. Smiley Wink

Huh, from the sound of the new house that wmarat just bought, I'm more likely to beg for a spare bedroom there!

I dunno, we'll see. I'm still not convinced.

Re: Success

When I called initially the CSR told me I didn't qualify for membership unless someone sponsored me. This morning was my second time calling and I believe I pressed 0 after asking for my access #, which I didn't have. Then I pressed 2 for checking/savings prompt. When I asked for a member services rep, the CSR that originally answered my call helped me. She asked for my relatives name and phone # and what branch of military they served in. After I told her, she processed everything on the phone to open my accounts and I had to input a pin# for my debit card.

It almost seems like a crapshoot depending on what rep you get and their knowledge. When I called back to get my access #, the rep seemed a little confused at first, but he gave me my #.

Re: Success

Also, when I opened accounts today the rep asked me if I wanted to apply for a LOC on my checking account. I told her I would wait. When I called back for my access #, the rep asked me if I wanted to apply for an auto loan too.

Hopefully, I'll be approved when I apply !

Thanks for the extra info and clarification!

Supposedly, I was talking to a membership specialist. But there's no telling. I agree, I'll call back in the daytime and seek a second opinion. Do you know where their call center is? I don't know when their 4:30 or 5 is compared to mine.

I'm still fascinated that she didn't ask for anything more than my father's name. And it's three very common, WASP-y, white bread names, so there are bound to be several dozen of them on the rolls, at least. Since I called up on impulse, I was sweating bullets, trying to remember his DOB. OK, anniversary of the landing on the moon --I can Google that --and he was 5 or 6 years older than my mom, so if I could remember which of the several years she has used as her year of birth, I could figure his out, blah blah blah. But nothing. I even mentioned that I was panicking trying to remember the DOB and SSN, and she said not to worry. Never asked a thing about my mother, who would really be my qualifying relationship.

I have the feeling that they lean toward approving people, rather than screening them out. Certainly, this didn't seem like a very thorough requirement of proof of eligibilty. I also mentioned that my father-in-law was a lieutenant in the Navy, killed on active duty when my husband was a baby, but she didn't seem to want any more info. Go figure. And she was awfully ready to take my app for a checking account. This was very different from PenFed, which seems to hold the membership app very separate from all the rest.

So I dunno, maybe I've jinxed myself by posting this, but their front door does seem to be cracked a bit. Now, if they let me in, I'll need to figure out what of their stuff I can use! If they do approve me, it will be time to go back and re-read the umpty-billion Navy FCU threads as a member, rather than as a mod! Smiley Very Happy

Oh, and I pulled a full EQ about a half hour after the convo, and no activity there, either hard or soft. I recently saw a thread discussing when they pull which for what, so I need to go dig that up, I think

Thanks again!

* ponders what my career Army physician father and uncle would think if they knew I was doing this * --yikes, I would have some serious 'splaining to do, that's for sure.

Hauling,

I failed to mention, this comment is most astute.

This is why I kept calling and did not give up when I applied. Based on how the eligibility requirments read to me I was convinced I qualified.

Re: Success

Woo-hoo, I'm in! First call did the trick. Looks like the groundskeepers at Memphis Memorial will need to do some repairs, from where my career Army father and uncle are spinning in their graves.

I'll have to wait for the welcome packet to be able to go online, etc. In the meantime, I guess I'll have to figure out what on earth I want/ need from Navy.

I feel like the dog that chased the truck, caught it, and now doesn't quite know what to do with it. Smiley Very Happy
