Sidewinder...Now I'm confused. Are you saying I should let the lien stay as is?

The ATT is listed at 3/05. It is ATT Mgt Ctr. So, I should call them directly? I'll try it. We never had a cell phone w/ them, though we've had long dist w/ them.

What you do with the lien is your call. You can attempt PFD. Just know that saying "it's better for me not to pay it then to pay it" may make them think you are refusing to pay and they can take other actions to collect on it. At this point, it may simply be overlooked and they haven't realized that it hasn't been paid, so be prepared for anything when you point this out to them.

As for ATT, it could be for the long distance bill. You can either dispute it with the CRA or you can call them and see if you can find out what it is and see if they will do a PFD(if it turns out to be your bill that you have just forgotten about/overlooked).

In my opinion, if you call them and it turns out to be yours then you can try to get them to do a PFD and it may save time, as a CRA has 30-45 days to "investigate" and it will more than likely be verified, which means then you'll have to send a MOV, and a letter to AT&T, etc.

Calling them first may get it cleared up sooner.

FishJBC...Wow! Small world. I was born and raised near Charleston. My dh was raised near Dawson. You're prolly right. Those w/ Ford are not too bad, but I'm trying to clear up all negatives because we need a mortgage in the near future.

Re: Any input on situation appreciated!

Sidewinder...I will contact ATT directly to expedite the matter as we have no record of this. As for the lien...I know they're different and I don't want to adversely affect my credit score. We may need a mortgage this year. It seems like it would be in both of our best interest to settle the amount. I pay it...they get their money...they remove it..my score improves. I have no records of owing this amount, but if I bring this to their attention I'm concerned it may ultimately bring my score down. I don't work or have any property/accounts in this state so I don't know if they could garnish in another state. I don't know what to do!

Re: Any input on situation appreciated!

Tax liens are different than credit cards and other loans and accounts.  Search for tax liens on this site and you will find out more info.  I'm sure that someone with experience in them or one of the mods will help you with this one.  They are a different animal than the rest.

As far as the AT&T one, find out if they bought out a company that you had an account with, such as Cingular or something.  Maybe that is what happened with that.  If it is a CA reporting it, DV them.  If it is the actual OC, then I think you would just PFD if you find out that it is a legit account.

GW Ford.  All they can say is no.  Don't give up after just one letter though.  If they say no, send another one and another one.  Don't give up.

If you have no records of it, then you need to check into it. Make sure it is yours. If you are going to look for a mortgage, paying it is probably your best bet, whether they remove or not.

While paid vs unpaid doesn't make much difference where score is concerned, during a manual review, paid looks much better, especially with public records.

Your scores weren't that bad. I don't think paying the lien will affect them.

Re: Any input on situation appreciated!

TY Danika and Sidewinder...I will contact ATT as we've only used prepaid cell service. I will bite the bullet and contact the county about the lien as well. Maybe they'll be nice. Send GW letter to Ford and hope for the best. Smiley Wink I appreciate your input very much!

My bad.  You are correct.  I think someone else also corrected me re: the difference in how she should approach the tax lien.

Well, I've learned my new thing for the day.  Now I don't have to get out of bed for the rest of the day.Smiley Tongue

Re: Any input on situation appreciated!

unpaid liens stay on for 15 years, right?  Paid liens stay for 7.  It doesn't seem to be hurting your scores.
