Re: Anybody have a success story?

not major success but hey...it's good in my eyes.  Been keeping track of EQ score since end of Mar 07.  Started at 573 on 3/29 by 4/9 jumped to 616...then 622 by 4/29.  As of today 5/7 its now 624.  Almost 50 point jump in about 1 month 7 days.  Works for me...also got cli of $3000 on revolving cc that had 0 balance as of today.  Just started tracking my TU and EX scores.. they are 606 and 622 right now..  Least I'm happy I'm finally in the 600 club....700 club...look out here I come!

That's so awesome!!  What steps did you take to raise your score?  I think 50 points in a month is huge.

Re: Anybody have a success story?

First and foremost, I would recommend not focusing on the past (beyond checking your report for inaccuracies). Once you mess up with a late pay or a charge-off, the system has no forgiveness. It doesn't care a bit if you try and make amends later. So don't.

The fastest way to raise your score is to pay down your revolving balances. If you have any credit card or charge card at 25% or more of its limit, focus on paying it down. This will result in a fairly rapid score boost.

Beyond that, dilute your bad credit history with good credit history. Acquire some positive TLs...then keep them under 10% utilization. Pay on time, every time. Every six to nine months, bug the CC company for a credit line increase. Over time, the scales will tilt your way.

Re: Anybody have a success story?

Wife got a store card from Children's Place issued in store on Sunday--with a FA on our files. They were offering 10% off, and because the wife had to talk to the rep on the phone they gave us another 5% off because of the hassle. I think they gave it because DD was screaming the whole time and they just wanted us outta the store. We do a lotta off season and clearance sale shopping there.

She also got an AMEX Optima offer in the mail today. $1300 limit albeit with a 23.24% APR. Heh, it's a start.

I got a Cr*p One card issued today as well. $300 limit with a 16 something APR. Ooh, aah. Another small step.

Banged off another TU inquiry thru bumping today.

Recently leveraged an APR reduction from our State Farm CC by threatening to close the card--veiled, implict, subtly.

Re: Anybody have a success story?

I've had some success but am in a stalemate.  At this time last year I was in the 400's-low 500's as far as my scores go.  My ex caused my credit to be pretty much destroyed.  I had numerous late payments, collections and a repossession.  I've battled this for nearly 8 years and now my scores are each 600, 599 for Experian.  What is kind of hurting me now is through disputes, I was able to get all my past negative items removed (collections, late stuff, old accounts...whatever) so I'm in a boat where I have basically a very short credit history showing, 9 years, which is well below the average.  I'll take that hit rather than having many negative accounts, etc.  Also, I've aquired several low limit credit cards (7 to be exact) and that is actually a positive on my score right now, I just have the balances a bit high so once I pay down about 75% of the balances, my score should jump significantly and be patient for about another year and I should be sitting pretty.

Patience is the key and you can't give up!!! There are so many ups and downs that credit repair often feels like a rollercoaster. Some days you just have to throw your hands up and scream for a moment, and then get back to work.

I think we should have a success stories sticky on the forum.

I paid off my car loan in March (and jumped with glee!) and dropped my revolving balances from $1655 down to about $300...

I called Discover today and got my interest dropped from 16.9 to 14%. Not much but every little encouragement counts!

Re: Anybody have a success story?

I got out of college Nov last year. With college fees racked up on my revolving CCs,  I already was low on my score (arnd 640). Then when I got a job this year, I was ecstatic. However my job involved me travelling a lot and I was spending a lot on car rentals and all. I was to be re-imbursed but not until the next month. Also I am under 25, so everything, rentals, insurance, is expensive. I was so deep in debt I had to get another CC and BT all my balances arnd. It got to a point I had no money left in my bank acc. to pay for the min. payments.

Then sometime in march, I e-filed my taxes. To my amazement, I realized that the tuition i payed for using my CC was tax-exempted. I got $4300 back, my salary and expenses the next month and I payed off all my debt, CC and personal, off in April. My score jumped from 640 to 720 in one month!
