Re: Anybody have a success story?

In 11 months I have brought my score up from 557 to 656. I made my payments on time and when I could throw more money towards that student loan, I did. I just got approved for a new card with 5700 limit and now that I am acting responsibly it should help my score even more. I felt the same way a year ago. Now I am pondering the idea of buying a home which I wouldn't consider last year at all. Good luck!

Re: Anybody have a success story?

I'm not sure if I'm a sucess story or not. I was divorced and claimed BK (CH 7) in May of 2001.  I got stuck with all the bills in the divorce because she had a previous BK and everything was in my name. She walked and I got hung out to dry.  Luckily, I make a pretty good living, but those bills and child support did me in.

I have no idea what my scores were like before or after my BK.  I had never bothered to check.  First lesson,If you go through a BK, you might want to invest in getting your scores so you know exactly where you stand.  I know I had really good credit before the BK, because I could walk in just about anywhere and get set up with financing.

After the BK, I pretty much paid cash for everything.  I had a couple store cards that I had sheltered from the BK since they had no balances.  I was always afraid to check my scores. Afraid of what I would find. I really wish I had started working on rebuilding my credit earlier on.  About 18 months or so after the BK, i applied for and got a CapOne card (non-secured which was cool) but it had a low CL and a fairly high interest rate. That is all I have had for the last 5 1/2 years since the BK.

In the last 6 months, I have applied for and gotten a couple new cards, including an Orchard bank card which has pretty good terms for someone recovering from a BK. I FINALLY pulled all three of my CRs W/ scores and found that they are 699, 700 and 701.  Not knowing what my scores were after the BK, I don't know how much of a success story I am. I just want others to realizethat you may not be able to stop the BK, but you really need to start gathering your information and trying to rebuild right after your discharge.  You will get shot down ALOT. But every now and then, some company will take a chance on you and youneed to be responsible so you can then help yourself.  Just remember that knowledge is power.

Re: Anybody have a success story?

mamabear i have a great story.  In april of 06 my ex score was 466 to my horror.  today it is 660.  my my tu 490, today 618, my eq was 512, today it is 630.  i was swimming in 24K of revolving debt plus an installment loan of $3K.  two of my accounts were charged off, but i did pay the outstanding balance after charge off.  i have two paid tax liens on my record.  my total debt right now is $5K, but $9K is currently showing on my reports. i am waiting to see what my scores will be when my records are updated.  i am showing 146 late payments on one of my reports.  my reports are pretty dismal but i have been paying on time faithfully as well as significantly paying down my debt.  i am almost out of subprime territory in a little over a years time.  it can be done it just takes patience and time.

Re: Anybody have a success story?

Just started tracking my scores October 2006. I claimed Bankruptcy in April 2001. As of October last year no one would give me a credit card because of the Bankruptcy. The only credit card I had was a Preimer Card for BAD CREDIT that charged me a $6 a month fee, a $75 annual fee, 20% interest rate  and only a $1200 limit that started at $800 and 3 years of payments. Finally my Bank issued me a regular credit card with no monthly payment, no annual fee and a $14000 limit. Since then I can not stop the credit card offerings. I started my bank credit card 6 months ago and they have already gave me a $2000 jump on the cc to $16000. I accepted a couple other credit cards of $10000 and $6000. My score is not going up but I know eventually my points will go higher as it is a red mark for applying for too much credit even if they offered it. It shows as a hard look. Eventually I think in a year I will have more then 760 points and my 90 days past dues start falling off my credit. It is currently 720 from how low I do not know but Bankruptcy is something I came back from. Patience and paying responsibly is the key and it does get better. The bankruptcy will not go off my report until Apr 2010 and I now have decent scores. I hope this helps.

Re: Anybody have a success story?

Leveraged a CLI outta my State Farm VISA. Limit jumped from $1500 to $2500. My $470 balance goes from 31% util to 19% util. Statement closes in a couple of days, so I should get a little FICO luv shortly.

[If I could locate the rectum on State Farm, I'd jam it full of coal, come back in 2 weeks to retrieve the diamonds, and all my financial worries would be over.]

Re: Anybody have a success story?

Hi this board has been a tremendous help.  Two years ago when my hubby and I tried to finance a home loan his credit was so bad they had to put the loan in my name only.  Today I just pulled his scores and they are better then mine! It took a lot of time and effort but you can see the results.  Hopefully they wont laugh at us this time when we go to refi in next couple months!

Re: Success story with Bank of America

SUCCESS Had a 30 day late payment with Bank of America that the customer service rep said could not come off by law. I told him i had never paid late before and this was an online banking error. He said sorry but he could not do anything about it and could not delete. I wrote a letter to the CEO of bank of America asking to remove.I googled his name and got his email address. Got a response today from his assistant. They are deleting from my credit report. Thanks Forum. Angel Message Edited by angelm939 on 05-16-2008 02:51 PM
