Quite a day yesterday! Spent a lot of time on the phone, first with American Express and then Citi. Both had detected possible fraudulent activity on my cards. The Amex CSR said that my name was included in a file of people to hit, I mean a file found in some scumbag(s)' possession.
Citi and Amex had both had a ton of calls from customers yesterday regarding fraud.
They've shut down the card numbers involved and have new cards on their way to me now.
What piqued my interest was an e-mail I'd received from Citi. I get alerts on *all* my cards for transactions of any amount, including $0. So this e-mail said 'card not present for transaction at Amazon' and the amount was $0.00. But I NEVER use Citi (or any other card) on Amazon, only my Amazon Prime Store card--because of its 5% cash back across the board. So I knew immediately it wasn't me. And, of course, a charge of $0 points toward just testing the card to make sure it's good before really using it.
Anyone else? This all happened to me yesterday. Just wondering if anyone else in this community got hit, too.
Not in the past two days but recently my Apple Card was compromised
Yes Op, I had (2) push alerts from NFCU on my Platinum card,
for (2) $0.00 charges ... the card is stored in a safe place . and is not registered with any merchants.
nor is it loaded on any "pay" Apps on my cell phone. So how they managed to get the CC# is beyond Me!
I called NFCU immediately and spoke to a CSR, cancelled the card.
They offered to send me a new card with new# FedEx overnight

Our names must have been found in that same scumbag-owned file!!
And I know what you mean about wondering how they got your info. Years ago, probably 11 or 12, I had several fraudulent charges on my BofA Visa. Like you, my card was in my wallet, wasn't stored anywhere online, AND I hadn't even used it at a physical store. Luckily, BofA was right on top of things and spotted potential fraud, contacted me, I verified I did not make those purchases, and they shut it down and sent a new card. So frustrating, though. I don't get why people think their job consists of stealing other people's HARD WORK. Maybe if they got a real job, they could have credit cards of their own...

By chance...do you use the "Freeze" feature with NFCU for your card @M_Smart007 ?
I ask because I do...and I'm wondering if I have a card listed as "frozen" if I would be notified of an attempt that was blocked due to the freeze. Some FI's do tell me....it's usually me forgetting to unfreeze them before use....but I haven't made that blunder with NFCU yet.

Hi @cashorcharge , No .. I do not have any CC's frozen .. only Debit cards.
Thus it keeps me from "blundering"

Sounds like I need to go attempt to use my frozen NFCU card for science! Thanks @M_Smart007

Thanks for the info. It seems like there's some kind of fraud wave happening right now....not that it doesn't always happen anyway!
My thought is how do these Scambags get your info to make a charge? SMH...
