How did you do it? I've been having a heck of a time trying to get it done with EX and TU. I've written them multiple letters since December 2016 and neither has made the correction. I provided them with everything they asked for such as my birth certificate, social security ID, copy of a utility bill, etc. Each time all they do is send me a new copy of my credit report, but my name is still not correct on there.
This is a major issue for me because I've had trouble both with creditors being able to pull my report as well as being able to report in the first place. For those of you that have made successful changes to your name on your credit reports, what avenue did you go down to get it right?
I'm not sure if I need to file an actual "dispute" or what, as I've never done so in the past. I figured just sending them all of the necessary documentation would be sufficient.
In order to get my Amex account to provide me with a monthly FICO score they had to drop the suffix off of my name. That worked in terms of getting my FICO score to show up on my account monthly, but now my name on my Amex account isn't my legal name, which sort of bothers me a bit.
I'm having the same problem now with my new (4 months old) Citi account. For one, it hasn't shown up on my TransUnion report yet... but two, I'm not getting a FICO score from them now. No doubt if I have them take my suffix off of my account, I'll then get a FICO score.
It's not the lack of the FICO score that bothers me, it's that I know they're not getting solid monthly SPs on me, which means during times when an auto-CLI could potentially be possible based on a stronger/better profile, they are still going off of what they have from back at the time of my approval.
I just find this frustrating that the bureaus aren't able to fix these types of things relatively easily/quickly.
You'd think that my name WOULD show up correctly on my credit reports based on it being reported correctly by some of my creditors. Yes, my name is incorrectly reported by some of my creditors, but it IS reported correctly by some as well. This to me means that while I may have incorrect reportings of my name on my credit reports, I should also have the CORRECT reporting there as well. And I don't. Very irritating. Now I know why I didn't continue the tradition and name my son after me
I skip the suffix on my name whenever I can. It's usually simpler because neither computers nor humans are good at understanding them. What's really annoying is that humans are worse than computers.
The only version of my name on my credit report with the suffix appearing has the suffix spelled wrong. Correct versions of my name include my full first name and full last name; my full first name, middle initial, and full last name; and a shortened version of my first name with my full last name. I've found myself to be readily identifiable, possibly because my credit report offers some options.
I also have a misspelled version of my last name on my reports. It was on one of my credit cards for fourteen years with neither Capital One nor I noticing. I figure that's defaulted into being accurate information, so I'm leaving it alone.
So, HO, you've never made any attempts to correct and/or adjust your name with any of the bureaus then? I'd really like to hear from someone that has and what exactly their avenue was for success.
In an older thread I had someone tell me they just "called up" the bureau and with a quick phone call got their name adjusted. I can't remember which bureau they were referencing, though. I thought that seemed somewhat unrealistic since every time I've called I'm always told that multiple pieces of documentation need to be mailed in for identity verificiation. It seems unlikely to me that a name change would happen with a simple verbal request with no supporting evidence.
OP - What has been the answer from the CRA when you provide the information they ask for?
I'm in the same situation, have tried several attempts via dispute link to remove middle name that I DON'T have. I think i will call them today and see what happens. This is on my TU.

Heaven Ohio, Señor instead of Heaven Ohio, Senior?
BBS I wish you luck in getting this cleared up. You have very valid reasons for needing it fixed and I'm sure you're far from alone in having this issue. Fortunately, my name mistakes seem to be ones I've never bothered to dispute like these examples for John Q. Public: "Q. John Public" and "Public Q. John."
I also have incorrect variations on addresses when I lived in apartments years back like 1000 Main St Apt 20 also being listed as "1000 Main St" or "1020 Main St." I disputed those once, then they came back again so obviously an old lender on a closed account keeps (or kept) reporting the address they have on file incorrectly.
One that will not go away unless I were to move is that my city changes on a daily basis on my credit reports. For most of Boston's neighborhoods, the post office finds either Boston or the name of the neighborhood to be acceptable for any given ZIP Code, and I'd say about 1/3 of my lenders use the neighborhood name so my address changes on all of my credit reports every couple of days when they report. I'm sure many people in the outer boroughs of NYC have the same issue (like Jamaica, NY or Flushing, NY vs Queens, NY).
I actually had good luck correcting addresses, employment addresses and removing phone numbers ..but that dang middle name !!!

One time I received a response that the documentation I supplied wasn't as requested or was not legible, which was complete BS as it was exactly what they asked for and they were crystal clear copies.
Most of the responses I received from the CRAs though were generic macro cut-and-paste responses that they send to everyone that basically says that they reviewed my request/documentation and if "any changes could be made based on their investigation they have been made..." and they include an updated copy of my credit report. In all cases my credit report remained unchanged, so indirectly they told me "sorry we couldn't make the change you requested." Super annoying.
The middle initial thing drives me nuts, too. I don't have a middle name, but I do have a suffix. You don't know how many times my suffix has been placed between my first and last name as a middle initial. It screws my name up twice with 1 switch. That's actually one of the incorrect representations I have on one of my credit reports currently.

I see...wow! Looks like i'll never be able to fix mine.
