Bread Financial/Comenity Card

I recently called Bread Financial, which manages my Ulta credit card, to inquire about their credit reporting practices. They told me that they report to the three major credit bureaus. However, when I look at my Experian credit report, I don't see any record of this account.

Looking closely it feels like they only report negative information when I'm late on a payment, but they don't report my positive payment history.

Since they are not required to report to all bureaus  but  given that they verbally stated to me that they report to all three, is this a valid basis for a dispute with Experian? I have been consistently paying down the balance and would like to have that positive activity reflected.

If i am able to disbute, is there there any consumer rights laws refer to? Any guidance or similar experiences you could share would be greatly appreciated.

What are you trying to dispute exactly?  You can only dispute incorect information that is reported to Experian.  Since they have not reported anything at the time of your post, there is nothing to dispute.  If you are taking issue that they haven't reported, then you need to take that up with the creditor directly as Experian can not force them to report anything.  Also, there is nothing stopping them from reporting later if your account becomes deliquant.  Shady practice?  Yes!  Have they broken any laws or government regulatory requirements?  No.

Is this a store card or a mc? Might make a difference. Are they reporting to tu and eq?

Maybe someone at bread needs an attitude adjustment.

Re: Bread Financial/Comenity Card

You will probably have to call or send a letter to Experian with your complaint as the process for filing an online dispute is usually gated on there being physically something on your report to dispute - but your issue is that something is missing from your report.   Be sure to mention that a) you have already spoken to Bread Financial and they confirmed that they are reporting to all 3 bureaus, and b) your information is being correctly reported by Transunion and Equifax.    It can take up to 30 days for them to mail you response after you call or they receive a letter.

If you don't get a satisfactory outcome try filing an online complaint with the CFPB against Experian, include the same info in your complaint that I outlined above.   Unknown what that outcome would yield given the current status of the CFPB but it's still worth a try.

Re: Bread Financial/Comenity Card

Hi @coldfusion thank you for your thoughtful answer. I am going to write an email to Bread customer service asking them who do they report to in an attempt get a response in writing before disputing to Exp.

Not getting my hopes up but doesn't hurt to try.

Re: Bread Financial/Comenity Card

Issuer is not obligated to report at all. If they do report, they must report accurate information.

You said they "report when you're late", so if you have lates on this account, why would you want it on EX?
