Cap1 0% checks

I just received some checks from Cap1 that are 0% interest for 18 months with a 2% fee. I am curious if it is worth my while to use these. I'm a bit confused by the messages on this board about cap1 and util. Also, has anyone had any luck with getting their CL increased with cap1? I tried the automated way and was denied. Unfortunately my CL is only $500 on this card. Otherwise, I'd like to transfer a $1100 balance.

Thanks!

Re: Cap1 0% checks

I get those checks with every statement and 3 or 4 a month in between statements. I throw them away. I do not see how they could help me. Only delay by 3 weeks what I'd have to pay anyway. For some I can see it serves a useful purpose, not having to pay for the entire amount of the check, but that's not the route I'm taking. Doing it that way just adds more debt, that'll have to be paid back eventually anyway. Just my opinion.

And I've never received a cli from them when I asked for it. They do their cli's by internal review, and grant cli's depending on the phase of the moon, time of day, outside temperature, and what they had for dinner last night. and if you have pristine pay history with them(I don't...or didn't), they should grant you a cli annually, depending on your scores.

Bal. transfer. ok. How are your credit scores? How old is your card(s)? Have you called their customer acct. specialists via their back door number to see if a BT card might be available to you? It might be worth your while. They will not do a hard pull on you(at least they didn't with me.

Gads, I'm babbling again. sorry. Did that answer your questions? We are here to help.

Re: Cap1 0% checks

I wouldn't use them unless your desperate...  I have a Capital One Platnium card with a $500 CLI.  It's been that way since 2005.  My utilization has been well under 20%, but still no CLIs.

Re: Cap1 0% checks

I too have Cap1 Platinum's. One Visa, one MC.

And I didn't see a cli from them from 2003, until early this month, when I called on an unrelated question, and offered me a choice of cli, or rate decrease. I took the cli, and will be calling for the rate decrease in Nov.

I personally think that if you PIF every month, it motivates them into action. Seems like it worked for me. (I now keep 0.5%-5% utilization on both the cards)

On CL question

I recieved a capital one card. Mine included a "steps" program. If you didnt have any late's or over the limit fee's they would raise your credit to $500 in 3 months. Well, I had one over the limit with a unauthorized charge, which they were helpful with and took care of. BUT, even so, they would not allow me the CI because of it.

I called and tried the automatic line for increase, told no.

I expressed my frustration with the fact that I did not get the increase, when the problem was not my fault. They still said there was nothing they could do. I told them, "ok, I guess I will just cancel this card then and go for a different one". I use the card A LOT. Well, suddenly they were interested in keeping my business AND put my credit limit to $600. Wow, it paid to complain, LOL. My lousy steps credit was $100 less then that.

Funny how that all worked out. !
