I am a little irritated. Now, I know my current FICO8 scores are decent (734/734/745). However, I have been working hard the past couple months to pay down CC debt. I have 15 total accounts on my report. In 3/2017 I missed my one and only payment in all of my credit history (30 days). This was just a boneheaded rare forgetful mistake on my part - so I take full responsibility. In the grand scheme of things has not really affected my current scores - or at least I have enough positives going on to counter-act that.
My issue is this:
Yesterday I get what appeared to be a great email from Credit Karma telling me that I had a late payment removed from my accounts! I had just paid off this credit-card (Wells Fargo) and thought somehow maybe they were grateful and removed the 1 negative mark. This is an 8 year old account afterall with otherwise perfect record!
So I log in to CK - and yes, they DID remove the late mark on 3/2017. HOWEVER - they ADDED a late mark to 4/2017. So now that puts the late mark that much more recent in my history. Grrrrrrrrr.........
I am trying to qualify for a mortgage before the end of the year - so disputing something that has more of a minimal impact on my score seems like a waste of time, and could delay my qualifying if I put in a dispute. I would not even know how to dispute this.
Is this something I should dispute? Or just let it be? This is a thorn in my side...
So if I understand the situation correctly, you paid your WF account in full and the delinquency for the account updated from being March 2017 to April 2017?
So you missed your payment in February 2017 and it reported 30-days late in March 2017? If your account is still open with WF I would contact them and ask why they updated the delinquency from March to April.
I understand that WF is a tough nut to crack. You could consider writing the CEO and ask for a one-time goodwill adjustment to the account and remove the derogatory as you are in the process of applying for a mortgage.
The problem I see with disputing the date of the 30-day delinquency is even if it is changed back to the correct date, the CRA most like will update the account which will give the delinquency more relevance to your FICO scores. I don't see one month being an issue at this point. I hope others with more experience with mortgages will chime in and give you better advice.
Good luck and best wishes on your mortgage.
Thanks for the reply. I guess I will try contacting WF directly. I agree, I see more harm and struggle filing a dispute through the CRAs for an unknown resolution. I could let it be.... but I just can't clear my head of this. Yes I know, minimal impact as it is, but it is still wrong.
I am with you! It is the little details that are wrong that tick me off!
At first blush, their correcton may be accurate.
If the missed payment had a due date in March, then even though delinquent after the due date, it did not become a reportable 30-late until April.
I would pursue the sugar route and send the creditor a good-will request based on your long and stellar past record.
I din't know asking for a mark to be removed was a thing, especially since admittedly it was my mistake to begin with. I know you can dispute, etc., but asking directly I guess I was not aware you could do that.
