Citi Diamond Preferred CLI Question

Is anybody out there familiar with this company's CLI process? I'm sure there is there are way too many experts here not to be Smiley Happy

Here's my dilemma. All my scores are peaking nice and pretty right now, from 750 to 796. I know that they use FICO score 9. I've asked for CLI from all my other cards and have gotten increases. However all of my other cards have updated their free FICO scores as well.

The problem here, is Citi has not updated my FICO scores since December 25th when they were 650. They approved me initially when it was 780. So I'm afraid to ask them for an increase until they do!

I've read so many of these I'm not positive that they say this also, but I'm pretty sure they do. But some of them say that a lot of times they don't need to check the credit at all (SP OR HP) and they can go by "current" information based on your card.

I know for sure I have also read, that some credit card companies will simply go by the most recent FICO score that they have on record.

If they do a SP, which is what I want, I won't have a problem. But because they DO say they can give you an instant answer without "checking any of your credit" leads me to believe that they are the type that won't even do an SP and will just base your request on the information they have at hand which is how good of a customer you have been in combination with "current" FICO.

That's the case, chances are they are not going to approve me with that low score. And because they are so behind on updating I am not sure when my new score is going to come out and since they skipped January in it's entirety, I can only assume I have to wait untill February 25th. Every month prior has always been on the 25th as well.

What's the problem with waiting? By that time, my new mortgage is going to appear as well as a possible $100k personal loan.

This is why I like asking for credit line increases knowing it doesn't affect my credit before I do anything else. Because they have not updated I am really in a rock and a hard place trying to decide if I should just go for it or not?

What you all think?

Re: Citi Diamond Preferred CLI Question

With Citi you might get a chance for "no pull" CLI every 6 months. This can be done in your online account under the CLI request page, and when it states "It's easy to find out if you qualify for a credit limit increase. A credit bureau report will not be requested and you will receive an instant decision." If you request it from there and get declined, it will usually say that they can't approve your request without requesting a credit bureau report, and asks for your consent to proceed with a report requested.

From online datapoints this can be YMMV resulting in a soft or hard inquiry. You can call them to ask if it's a soft or hard, but I've called before specifically asking if it would result in a hard inquiry and the other side said it won't, but I still ended up getting a hard inquiry.

If you request online using the tool without a report pulled and your request was denied, there are several circumstances which you would want to look at the letter popping up later on in your communications and read the reason. Sometimes they allow you to try again when you meet X condition and you don't have to wait for another 6 months (particularly if the last CL adjustment is within 6 months from now).

Meanwhile, if your FICO score is supposed to update around Jan 26th and you still don't see the update today, this is not necessarily a problem. Citi probably has already got an account review credit report during January, they are just slow updating the score. FYI mine's most recent one is Dec 26th 2017 too.

Re: Citi Diamond Preferred CLI Question

Actually mine is the 26th also I got the date wrong!! So it looks like we are all in the same boat without it updating. That's good to know at least. From your experience, have you ever had it skip a month before? And if so did you have to wait another month or could it pop up at anytime seeing as all the others were on the 26th as well?

Well I guess after reading what you said it's probably not worth taking the chance. I can't help but feel that they are not going to bother pulling FICO score when they already have one sitting there and since you said there is a chance that they will not pull, then I better wait for the update Smiley Happy

Re: Citi Diamond Preferred CLI Question

Do you know if they have their own actual separate credit department that I could actually discuss the situation with? Like Discover has? Or is it all done in one boiling pot with a representative?

I've talked about it with two different representatives but you know how that goes. They're just reading off computer screens and I don't really think they have a clue what it is that I'm trying to ascertain! They both just keep repeating the same mumbo-jumbo from the screen in front of their face!

They do have a separate credit department, but you most likely have to talk with the front line first and get transferred there. That's pretty much how I got transferred to, but that's back in a while. Still, when they say there's no hard inquiry you may still end up getting one, and CLI with hard pull pretty much can be done online.

Unfortunately, the frone line reps can be pretty unhelpful from my recent experience with the ThankYou cards team. Guess you have to insist that you know something the rep claims otherwise or so. Also you may mention that you want to talk with someone who can make credit decisions. The most painful process during a call to credit card company would got to be talking with front line.

This is how mine looks like in the previous six months:

The day of each month ranges from 21st to 26th but it doesn't appear to have skipped any month, just really slow updating. I guess it might update on next Monday but we will have to see then.

Re: Citi Diamond Preferred CLI Question

Just thought I would update my experience. So their FICO score finally updated from 12/26/17, but showed the retroactive date of 1/23/18 even though was 2/7/18 when it finally showed.

Went to the website and once again it said we can process this request without having to check any of the information on the credit bureaus. So went for it.

Gave me 2k so $10,500 to $12,500 in less than 6 months as a customer.

But wanting to insert the exact language on this post, I went back to duplicate what I did to see how it was worded and NOW it says "by checking this box you understand we will contact the credit bureau's blah blah"

So I guess they are perceiving this as I am wanting more than the $2000, in which case they will pull reports.

I will say this is the very first credit line increase I have ever asked for that specifically says it will not check any of your information with the credit bureaus. Normally it says this credit decision will not affect your score. So I can only ascertain that to mean, I was due one automatically but for some reason they didn't want to come out and say that, so waiting for me to request it. Or something like that within those general parameters.

That maybe information on the account itself had already been sufficient to warrant an increase but I still can't understand why they didn't at least do a SP? Just seems risky, what if I had just claimed bankruptcy? LOL
