Collection Account Deletion

Hi Guys, Fabulous news! I negotiated a collection deletion two days ago, it was submitted to my credit reports yesterday and today I received a score watch indicating that my score jumped 11 points! This makes up for all the headaches. Well I am going to keep plugging away at it. I guess persistence counts. It is phenomenal that it happened this fast.

Re: Collection Account Deletion

How do you negotiate a credit deletion?  I just paid off 12 things on my credit report, and another that was a court judgement.  Can I get them off of my report without waiting the 7 years?

Re: Collection Account Deletion

Do you know if you can do that if you have already paid the collection account? I didn't know that was something you could negotiate for when I paid off a collection account in Feb 06. Since that payment updated the aging I am going to have to live with it for a long time now!

Re: Collection Account Deletion

I negotiated this after it was already paid. However, I do not recommend paying without a PFD. This particular collection was a medical account for $53 which I thought I took care of. I had knee surgery at the time and called someone who said to send a letter explaining my situation. He said he would forward it to management and he would call me back. I called to follow up and he said it was OK. This was lucky. I negotaited one last year for $385 that the company refused to budge on, but they granted my request because I refused to budge on the PFD - no deletion no money. After going back and forth within a two hour time period - several calls - I received my deletion. I did not pay until they faxed me a letter on comapany letterhead stating the account would be deleted.

Re: Collection Account Deletion

Try calling and asking for one. If they say no send a letter. If they say no - wait a few months and dispute on credit reports. After it is paid they generally care less and will file paperwork away or not verify. It Worked for me before.

Re: Collection Account Deletion

I already paid over a year ago before I knew there was such a thing as PFD. It's the only collection account I've ever had (or ever will have). It was some mail order stuff I ordered before I even turned 18. I had to go to cash only for a while to get NSF fees under control, and cancelled the card they were supposed to charge the monthly payments to. I called them before I cancelled the card and asked them to send me a bill so I could send them the money I owed and they said they didn't have that capability. So they sent it to collections after the first payment got declined.

Re: Collection Account Deletion

I bet if you dispute the company probably will not verify as it is over 1 year.

Re: Collection Account Deletion

That may be, but to me disputing would be dishonest, since I did actually owe the debt. I'd rather stay on the legit side, for my conscience.
