Credit Report Disputes

Recently disputed some inaccurate information on all 3 bureau reports. 2 of the 3 came back advising the of the negative information removal. I did receive a score jump notifcation from EQ via Scorewatch. My question: should I have received an updated version of my CR displaying the information removed, or do I have to request and pay for the new report?

Re: Credit Report Disputes

You've got to pay for a new report.

ETA:  Just for clarification, when I mentioned that you had to purchase a new report I was referring to the fact the via Scorewatch, when you get a new alert you do not get a new report with that alert unless you purchase one.  Sorry if that caused anyone any confusion!

Re: Credit Report Disputes

No, you do not have to pay for a new report.

FCRA 611(a)(6)(B) requires, under subsection (ii), that upon providing notice of the results of any investigation, the CRA must provide you with a credit report that is based on your credit file as revised as a result of their reinvestigation.

You can also, under FCRA 611(d), request the CRA to furnish notification of the deletion to any party who received your CR within the last two years for emplyment purposes, or who received your CR within the last 6 months for any reason.

Additionally, if the furnisher of the information determines that disputed information is inaccurate or unverifiable, they are required under FCRA 623(b)(D) to "report those results to all other consumer reporting agencies to which the person furnished the information and that compile and maintain files on consumers on a nationwide basis."

That means each of the big-3 to which they have previously reported the disputed information.

So, steps that you can take after favorable resolution of a dispute that leads to the correction of information in your CR include:

1. A direct dispute with the creditor, disputing the completeness of their credit reporting based on failure to notify other CRAs of the correction/deletion of information.

2. Request for any updated CR from the CRA.

3. Request that the CRA provide notification to parties who have previously pulled your CR.

On the notification they send stating that the negative information was removed, they generally have a link for you to see your updated report.  At least that's what I've seen in the past.

That is what I thought too. A link was provided, but it did not pull a full report. Just the updated info. Knowing me it is probably just user error. I thought you always got a copy of the new report if the information changed.
