Does anyone know what the credit card reporting rules are? In other words, must they report accounts within a specific date paramater( 3 months, for example)?
what are the penalties they face for not doing so? I'm thinking of synch, or course, but it would be helpful to know generally
Lenders aren't required to report anything to the credit bureaus. Though if they do, they're responsible for submitting complete and accurate information, and responding to disputes (those rules were established by the Fair Credit Reporting Act). And in addition to compliance costs, a lender has to have a paid account with the bureau to submit reports. Which is why some small lenders may not report to all three bureaus, or any at all.
