DTE Energy reporting

This never dawned on me until now.  I just realized that the DTE Energy TL on my reports show an 18 year history, yet it is only listed as Individual.  My DW and I were married this entire time and she is also able to call in to them and make payment changes or inquiries on their service, at will because it's her home too.  Wouldn't she be entitled to have that TL on her report as well? I know it's a question for them, but it is off hours and am curious if anyone else has a utility TL reporting to both spouses reports.

Re: DTE Energy reporting

What kind of account is it?  If it's an installment account it will not report on her's unless it's a joint account and she's also liable for it.  If it's a revolving account and she's an authorized user that is able to make charges with it then it can report to her's as well.  If she's just authorized to make payments or other changes to accounts profile then it won't report.

Re: DTE Energy reporting

DTE is Detroit Edison Electric - your monthly electric bill.

I never heard of a utility reporting to the CB.

Re: DTE Energy reporting

Some utilities do report monthly. This is one. Seems like ConEd is one? Can't remember, but there are 3-4 out there that report regularly, good or bad.

OP, the only way it would report to both is if both of you opened a joint account at the same time, and I'm not aware whether or not utilities will let you open an account with more than one name.

I would be shy in doing anything if the 18-yr history helps. I would be afraid they would delete off yours too if you quizzed them about it.

Re: DTE Energy reporting

Yeah it's actually for electricity and gas together.   They have been reporting for so many years.  They report to EQ, EX, and Innovis.  They told me years ago that they always report positive stuff since they also report negative stuff.  They have a separate credit reporting department.

Re: DTE Energy reporting

I wish more companies abided by that policy.  A lot of folks have very long standing relationships with their power and cable companies since they typically have monopolies on the local area.  You may move several times over the years but as long as you stay in the same general area your power and cable companies would remain the same.  This could give a serious shot in the arm to a lot of folks AAoA.  Personally for my it's hammer mine, I've moved was to much in the last ten years.  Several cities across two states.

Re: DTE Energy reporting

When I had DTE during my time in Michigan, they never reported on my CR, well outside of dinging me for final balance of like 7 dollars (although after an email to an executive, it was promptly removed). I do agree wtih Ilecs that inquiring about it could result in it being taken off your report, so it's probably best to leave it be if it's a positive TL.

Re: DTE Energy reporting

Except that they actually promote the fact that they report....

"It's important to have a good credit rating when applying for credit cards, home or auto loans, or personal lines of credit. Before approving a loan, creditors check an individual's credit history. Full-file credit reporting provides an opportunity for customers who pay on time, but may lack a credit history, to establish credit-worthiness and build a good credit rating by simply making their monthly DTE Energy bill payments."

Re: DTE Energy reporting

For what it's worth, DTE only reports to two CRAs for me. Not sure why for they don't show up on TU.

Re: DTE Energy reporting

Me too.  EQ and EX.  Oh, and Innovis, for what ever that's worth.  I just wish companies like Comcast cable would.  They extend you credit too if you think about it.  You can use their product but must pay for it at the end of the billing cycle or they will freeze your account.  No matter how you look at it, you prove credit worthiness by paying on time each month, or not.
