My wife was shopping for health insurance and was sold a wrong plan that would have messed up our taxes. Once we found the mistake we called the rep asking for a refund. A week went by and still no refund so he said to contact our credit card company and see if they can do a reversal or dispute the charge since the insurance comapanies are busy with open enrollment. I disputed the charge with Amex over the phone and the rep told me not to pay the amount in dispute. My question is, if I pay off the card minus the disputed amount will Amex still report a balance to the bureaus?
If the amount already posted to your account then likely yes... if not it may remain as a pending charge until it's resolved, and not report.

Yes, they'll report the balance.
