@Anonymous, the bolded statement is not accurate. The Chase SWA card (or any partnership CC for that matter) is considered a bankcard. What is the source of your statement? Remember the 3 little groups of "credit mix" you mentioned on another thread? So, let's ensure not to make blanket or inaccurate statements that can only create confusion for the community.
Another example, the SAKS 5TH Ave WEMC, also considered a bankcard (not a store card) despite of it being a Capital One PLCC. The same would apply for BOA with any of their affinity CCs.
it was just my opinion, how can it not be accurate? i think if he's ashamed of holding store cards, then he should be ashamed of brand-loyalty cards too. especially if he's just getting the card because it's easy to get. he already has nearly 20 store cards. you have to ask yourself is this next card going to be truely useful or am i just feeding a compulsive habit of adding cards...
I think what FinStar is saying is: the sw card is not treated by credit bureaus as a store card. There is an empircal and measurable difference. It can be used anywhere for anything, not exclusively in the store--as is the case with a store card that does not have bancard backing (e.g., Visa, MC, Amex). My Amazon Prime Visa Signature would be a store card under your categorization, but it is in fact a bancard that provides benefits for many purchases outside of Amazon (including gas).
well i did say in my original post that it's a co-branded creditcard, not a store card. i don't know how you guys got so confused about what i was saying
i was only commenting on his being ashamed of excessively apping for cards he didn't need.

This pretty much sums it up. The implied comparison that the SW CC "is just as bad as a store card" is pretty much where the clarification was needed as the statement is inaccurate - perhaps the OP's CC selection wasn't in the right frame of mind, but it doesn't make a bad choice if the OP can find some value with SW vs. Freedom - regardless of whether the OP felt ashamed about the number of CCs they had acquired.
Don't worry, I did the same thing when my credit started getting better. I now have like 12 credit cards or something stupid like that. Only store card I really wanted was the Ulta one, but I thought I'd get approved for the MC version, which I didn't. I also got 3 AMEX cards, which was dumb because 2 of them are basically the same thing. Basically, you're not the only one to get excited about all these approvals. It's like a drug dude.
