Hello,
I had a credit card opened fraudelent in my name with american express and it is affecting my ability to open a credit card with them. I have been trying for the last 11 months to get this resolved with them and nobody can figure out how to remove the account from my internal report with american express so I can apply. I've talked to the research and recovery team and because the account if fraud they cant do anything and fraud department does not have the abilitiy to remove and refer be back to the credit department which they dont have the ability to remove it either and just sends back to fraud and this goes on and on. If anyone here has had any success with getting something like this fixed please let me know.
Have you filed a police report and filed an FTC identification theft claim? If not then I would start there. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done to force Amex to offer or issue you credit. IMO if you filed the above reports and then sent them the reports they may be likely to respond.
Just claiming fraud won't get you anywhere with the bank.
the account has already been accepted as fraud from amex and its not on my credit report. At this point the issue is not disputing the account as its already accepted and approved as fraud but its still on my name when every department I talk to in amex says it should not be accepting my application but it auto declines becuase of that fraud account.
Did Amex incur losses on these accounts opened in your name after the fact even if it wasn't you that opened them?
I would assume so since it's saying there is still a balance left

That is the obstacle you are facing if you haven't done a police report and affidavit that is where you want to start.
There is someone out there, maybe a lot of someones from a data breach, who has enough of your information to open a fraudulent account, so they probably don't want to risk another person doing the same thing. You are a calculated risk. Let's say someone lied to you to borrow money, said he had an inheritance coming in at some time in the future, and could pay you back quickly. Then he didn't pay you back and said "It wasn't my fault. I was scammed and I can prove it." Would you ever loan this person money again, because that's what you're asking them to do for you.
I would agree that filing complaints/ charges with 5-o and anyone else might help. If you dont, you wouldn't look serious to me. Btw, do you know who was behind this?
I understand that I have already filed those complaints and thats why amex approved it as fraud in the first place. the problem is an internal error that is not automatiocly removing it from my name. after talked to the credit card department supervisor they stated they have ran into this in past and was able to get it approved so I will let you guys know what happens
