Good Account on Credit Report but I Never Opened It

I have an account that is a "joint account," but I never opened it.  Actually, my husband opened the joint account before we were married.  It is closed and in good standing, but should I have it removed since I never signed anything to opened or just leave it alone?

If it's closed at 0 balance and in good standing it will only help you if it remains.  If you never signed anything, are you certain that this is not an AU account as opposed to a joint?

If you don't know where they came from, regardless of them being FICO beneficial... I'd be concerned that someone is unwittingly typo'ing their SSN which is close to yours, or that you are the victim of ID theft.

Re: Good Account on Credit Report but I Never Opened It

I recently found out that my Experian had mixed up my mother's information (including her SSN) with mine, so I had her mortgage, all her CCs, etc on my Experian report.  This was only for XPN and not either of the other two.  I was able to dispute this information pretty easily.  None of it was bad, I just wanted it off my CR.

Several years ago I received a credit card from Bank of America.  When I called them, they said that I had "verbally authorized" the new line of credit (no I didn't).  I closed the acccount immediately, but I never insisted that it be removed from my CR, so it's still listed.

joinme... you may want to see if there's been any recent activity on those accounts... this would indicate if someone else has been using them, as opposed to them having been opened up by you inadvertently (you can get this off most reports, or you can try calling the lender).  If they're really not yours, I would start actively disputing right away!

Good luck...

Re: Good Account on Credit Report but I Never Opened It

It is a JOINT account.  My husband opened before we were married.  He has never used my information again.  It appears that I should leave well enough alone.  It didn't hurt...thank goodness.  Thanks for your input!!!
