Looks like they work like most carriers and let you trade in your phone if you want to, if you owe anything on it you will have to pay that off before you trade it in (https://support.google.com/fi/answer/7535199?hl=en&ref_topic=4596407).

As I understand it, if you buy a phone from the Google store, no special upgrade price. But I'm looking at this Google Fi offer: $9 /mo., $15/mo. w/device protection, for a Pixel 4a with upgrade in 2 years. Plus a Google Fi cellular plan starting at $20/mo. unlimited calls & text + $10/GB for data. I don't need the data, I have T-Mobile 4G home internet with a mobile hotspot I can carry when I travel.

I've actually been getting by with Tracfone pre-paid for some time now, I'm not a big talker and when I do want a long conversation with a friend or calling a company with expected long wait time I use Google Voice for a free call. But a new phone every 2 years would be nice, I've been getting by with an LG G5 I bought used on eBay a couple years ago, it's been a good phone but the battery life sucks.

Last post in thread (as of a few minutes ago) has a FAQ link.

Hope this helps @razzy116

Helped me, thanks for the usefull info. Really debating signing up for Google Fi with the $9/mo. for a Pixel 4a w/upgrade in 2 years. But probably not right now, I'm paid up on Tracfone through Feb., so maybe then.

Does Google Fi finance show up in the credit report? Thank you and be safe.

@razzy116 as of today the credit line extended by Google to finance the phone for Google Fi has not reported on any of the big three CRA's. I don't monitor the smaller, lesser known cra's so it might report on one of them.

Re: Google financing

All hard pulls will show up on your credit report, it's just whether the account itself will or not and that's what is reported to be hidden.
