How can I stop OR cancel an already filed dispute with a CRA?

I sent a dispute by mail to Equifax some time ago but for some reason it took a while for them to get to it (still within 30 days).

In the meantime, I was able to get the negative account corrected using another method.

Now, what I am trying to figure out is how I can stop the dispute in progress. I heard that one can do it but when I tried to call the CRA in question (Equifax), the agent simply shrugged their shoulders.

I am concerned that the results of the dispute may re-insert negative information.

Does anyone know how one can put a full stop to an already filed dispute quickly?

Thanks!

They will delete the progress you made and your negative info will return.  You'll need to send or fax them the information you have to repair the damage.  I speak from experience.

You would need to send a request to the CRA, and the CRA would then have to accept cancellation of the dispute.

In my opinion, CRA cancellation will likely depend upon how far the dispute has proceeded.

The CRA must refer the dispute to the furnisher (i.e., creditor or debt collector), and then receive their response for evaluation as part of their reinvestigation of the dispute.

If the CRA has already received the results of investigation back from the furnisher, then cancellation of the dispute would raise a CRA dilema on what to do with the received response from the furnisher.  They might, for legal reasons, not wish to simply trash it, and might feel compelled to complete the reinvestigation.

I would send any request as soon as possible ......
