How to keep credit card/bank account from tracking my credit score and…

Several of my cards and my chk account update me about credit score movement and info. How do they do this? When did I give authorization? And how do I stop it? Thank you.

Most creditors offer a free version of your score you can opt out if you want with most but you can't STOP them from viewing your credit and tracking your profile once you open an account with a bank.

In addition to what @Jnbmom wrote, keep in mind most of the credit scores provided to you are Vantage 3.0 scores which are basically worthless.  I only have one credit card issuer, Pentagon Federal, which provides an actual credit score, FICO 9, and that isn't a heavily used score either.

@Purp  That type of update does not come from the credit card or the bank account.

It comes from the free credit monitoring services provided on the site, which almost invariably track Vantage 3.0 scores, and for which you at one time -- either purposefully or inadvertently -- signed up. If you want to shut off those updates, you need to go to the site, and find out how to extricate yourself from that credit monitoring service.  If you visit the site, and can't figure out how to extricate yourself from it, let us know which bank it is and probably someone will be able to tell you how to stop it.

Inspired by your post, I just cancelled Chase "Credit Journey". It was as easy as pie. Just went to Credit Journey --> support --> FAQ --> "how do i cancel"  --> cancellation link.

My question is why bother?  Unless I'm mistaken, when one has an open credit card with a financial institution, that by definition gives them carte blanche to pull your credit (soft pull) at any time, and turning off credit monitoring does nothing to change that.

The only reason to bother that I can think of is to turn off the pesky notifications ( which can also be done without cancelling the account altogether, but why not cancel it anyway if you're not interested in the notifications ).

Hmmm, I've had Chase's Credit Journey since long before I had a Chase credit card, and rarely get a "pesky notification"; I just looked at my E-Mail history and see six notifications total in the last two years, four for "Dark Web" activity relative to my E-Mail address, and two indicating hard pulls on my credit.  Other than that I get nothing on my phone or via any other channel.

Regarding the notifications themselves, I appreciate the information; so far the notifications have benign, but in the immortal words of the late great Jazz and Stride pianist Fats Waller, "One never knows, do one?"

@Purp As others have stated They still will be monitoring what you are doing creditwise. You can't stop them from looking at your entire credit profile when you have some form of credit with them. They do ARs (reviews)all the time and some more than others.

They are always watching how you handle all your accounts.

You can see who is looking and how much they look by getting your credit reports and looking at your Soft Pulls.
