Well, thank you for your replies. Very interesting comments.
I will probably call them from a pay phone to discuss the issue without giving any personal info, just to get an overview. Based on their answer I may take another step. However, If I go to NYC, I will definitely stop by at their address to see if they are actually located there or not. I will go in, if they are open, and see what they can do. I will report the outcome here as soon as I get back.
On the side note, this is what I was thinking:
Based on many posts on this forum and elsewhere, what do you think we sign a petition or something powerful and talk to our senators to have them make changes on related laws. For instance, new law could state that
"If an individual is on collection, as long as they pay the full amount they owe, collection must be removed from their reports. If they pay partial amount, it may stay on the report but cannot effect the credit." (please add your own take)
I am thinking if we can somehow get the congress and our senators involved in this idea, I guarantee you majority of collections will be paid off immediately which in return will improve people's credit which makes them eligible for credit that in return gives them opportunity to spend money, thus Capitalism and the system works perfectly. In the end, everybody is happy.
What do you think? Can we start this kind of movement? I think so many members of this forum can make a difference in collection laws. Let's get our elected officials involved in this situation and let's do something about it. I cannot imagine a better time to start a movement with the recession and slow economy upon us.
What do you think? Can we start a sticky? Get our members and elected officials involved? Can we make a difference?
I think we can...
