My account was hacked at NFCU and my savings and checking were cleaned out, and a loan was applied for by someone doing a member to member transfer. I have been on the phone every day since the 19th, when this happened. They will not give a letter to my creditors until the fraud claim is resolved. I am racking up late fees and NSF fees, because they closed my accounts and I had a lot of bill pays already scheduled. I had TJX, cld my account down from $800 to $100 and they charged me a fee so I owe them over $65 for a $26 bill which should have been paid in full. A new account was established the same day they closed the others, but after being told I was not liable, because I was hacked, I find out that NFCU will only help take care of the fees on the payments that were sent via bill pay....all of my bills that I paid from the store websites, using my checking account is all on me I was told!!!!!!! Once I get my funds back, I am moving all my money!!!! I am so mad!!!
Awful indeed =(
Sorry for your situation. I'd be keeping a really really close eye on all my other accounts after what happened. Fox in the henhouse...
@trustywrote:
How did you get hacked?
Not really sure! I aplied for a car loan at the Chevy dealer, and 3 days later all hell broke loose....could just be a coincidence. Someone logged into my NFCU account from an Iphone and opened a member to member transfer account, and they transferred my entire checking and savings and applied for a loan....so it was an internal transfer to a NFCU member, but once the money hit their account they pulled it out...so someone probably applied for an account online and had fake documents is my guess. I really wish I knew!
Did you call the FBI and report this to them? That should be a definite "must do" on the "to do list" IMO.
Edited to add: This is wire fraud and falls within the jurisdiction of the FBI.

Well, one thing is for sure, there are no such thing as coincidences... particularly when it comes to things like - getting hacked.
Perhaps you signed in to your bank account while you were at the dealership... presumably on an unsecure wifi network?
Also, is the bank's security really that lax - that they don't even require verifying new devices - by phone or email - when logging in for the first time?
File a complaint against NFCU with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Banks and credit unions jump into action when they receive a complaint from the CFPB. They only have 14 days to reply and usually a senior manager is assigned.
i had a problem with Wells Fargo and within a week of my complaint it was resolved in my favor.
You are not responsible for account takeover fraud regardless of how bills are paid.
Sorry that happened to you. Working for a bank in the past the fraud reps were less empathic/customer friendly even with us frontline reps. I/they have seen victims of scams/fraud,people knowningly compromise own accounts,people file fasle claims,domestic disputes etc . Just continue keep record of your contact with navy,monitor other accounts,scan current devices,remote swipe any possible lost devices,update logins,make sure wifi/wifi share,bluetooth,nfc etc only on when needed with trusted devices,etc. See if they can expedite the letter once claim approved.

No, I never sign into my bank account, except from home. It just seemed weird, that the only time I ever gave out my SS# to apply for car loan, and then phone calls start and I get hacked. Also it was so funny that it was an internal transfer. They don't really give you any info about anything, but I would think that transferring a large amount of money out of 2 accounts and applying for a loan would send up some red flags!!! Especially when it is out of the norm.
They better give me a letter for my creditors, as I now have 2 cards that were CLD, because of reversal of payments.
