Just found out, it can't be done. RE: Someone doesn't want and old credit card. Can I take it over?

As I learn I tend to try and help others. I always tell them, do not cancel old cards. Well in this case someone wants to cancel and OLD OLD card. So I am thinking. What if before they cancel it they put me on as an authorized user. When they cancel it, They tell them to allow me to keep it. Does it become mine after that with old trade lines? How incredibly rare this would be, but can it work.

I can answer this for my self. I just checked. No. You can become an authorized user, but when it is canceled, no one can use it. However the history does stay on both reports. This thread is done since they won't allow it to happen. They can add them as a Co-Card Holder a few days before canceling it so the tradelines stay on the other persons report however. That sounds like taking advantage of the credit card companies since they have to take the time to add the person, just to have it canceled a few days later.
