Merchandise Catalog Cards

Hello,

Has anyone heard of adding/opening a merchandise catalog credit card in order to reduce your debt or credit ratio? I've read that it reports on your credit report (at least on of them) just like a revolving credit cards and limits are sometimes as high as 10,000 - 12,500.

Also, does anyone know what the procedure is for adding a tradeline to your credit report. For example your monthly rent. I've also heard this can be down (legally) however I've "not" ordered the package (yet). I'm just wanting to know if anyone else heard of these.

BTW....in both cases I've heard/read it from two different sources. So what do you think?

Thanks for you input............

Re: Merchandise Catalog Cards

AWWWWWWWWWWWWW u stole my postSmiley Very Happy I have a catalog card it reports to tu it has a $7,500 limit on it Ive had it for 6months Ive enjoyed using it Ive purchased a few things ipod touch and a few video games for the Xbox 360 I think everyone should have a catalog card no credit checks no interest and great limits you can at least  manipulate one of your scores and thats a great thing knowing every company doesnt pull from every cra a company can pull your tu oh lets say a hooters and see you have a $7,500 credit card with a $192 balance this can be very helpful to gaining access to cards with higher limits it also helps your high credit limit which can work wonders against your util Ive been looking for a card that reports to all 3 cra but all the ones Ive found only report to tu which is good enough for me Im due for an increase in feb Ive had the card since may but Ive only made 3 payments the first three months I jus let it sit on my report and look pretty $7,500 card with no balance looks very beautiful hooters just pulled my tu and it was sittin right there waiting for them I expect a nice credit limit from hooters once I recieve my card in the mail got approved on the spot I think one day these cards will be looked at like authorized users and probably want factor into your fico scores but for now I think they are great!!!!!!!!

Re: Merchandise Catalog Cards

Thanks, I_Owns_The_Scene for your quick response. Yes, I've heard they are a big secret in the credit world and an excellent way to help increase your credit score. It's makes your debt to credit ratio look real pretty.......lol. I wonder why I don't hear anyone on this forum talk about them.

Pssssssssst.............which one do you have? Shhhhhhh.......email me the info...........lol

I can see "the powers that be" doing away with this program as we know it.

I'm going to apply for one within the next week or so. Also, there's a bank (I don't know if I can mention them or not) that has a Dreams Begin account. It's kind of a secured savings account. The way it works is you deposit $200.00 into a "sealed savings" account. they deposit $800.00 you make payment of about $69.00 for one year or about $135.00 for 6 months. It shows up on one of your credit reports as an installment loan.

How cool is that? After the said destinated time of course you get all of your money back.

Re: Merchandise Catalog Cards

yes I think they will become a thing of the past very soon low risk( no inquires very little interest if any at all) high reward(great products great CLS improve your overall util) think about it if ur in a rebuilding phase you have three sub prime cards with all $300-$500 limits and then you get a card that has a $10,000 limit a credit card company pulls your report oh for the heck of it lets jus say hooters (tu is what I found that most catalog card companies pull from) and they give you a $5k-$8k limit just  just because you have $10,900 of revolving credit and hoping your keeping it @ 1-9% that $5k-$8k will start reporting on all 3 cras now you have over $8k of revolving credit across the board in less than 6months of rebuilding I dont know about you but I think thats a great way to get back on track

Re: Merchandise Catalog Cards

That sounds like music to my ears. Smiley Happy I'm so excited about the journey of achieving a 750+ score. Now that I have the tools and information to make it happen.

Seems you and I are the only ones at this party. But again I heard this was one of the best kept secrets to rebuilding/establishing credit.

Re: Merchandise Catalog Cards

I am not sure if this really is a good idea. I have seen most catalog card/ merchandise card with this kind of catch:
When I complete the application on the following pages of **, *** will debit my checking account for my one-time $149.95 Membership Fee. It will appear as a debit by USA Credit on my banking statement.

Are you guys willing to compromise (or pay) for the Credit Score ... Smiley Indifferent

Re: Merchandise Catalog Cards

When you have "bad" credit you are (always) paying. You pay in interest, employment, insurance rates (health and otherwise), etc., etc., etc.....

I have no problem playing the credit game and if it costs me $149.00 welllllllllllll, it's ok with me. You see I'm in the middle of a re-fi and I'm paying 10% interest (ouch) and this lovely 2 bedroom-2bath apt. I live in. I advertisement stated $135.00 security deposit (based on approved credit). I "paid" $1,200 to move in for security..........again we're always paying.

And the fact that I_Owns has confirmed that it shows up on the credit report as a revolving credit card. It only reassures me that it's the right thing to do "for me". I think we all have to do what we feel comfortable with and I'm more that comfortable with it.

At the end of the day I just want my credit to be at 750+  and I'll do whatever it takes (legally to get it there).

It costs to have bad credit.....................

**Doing whatever it takes, meaning disputing, PIF, GW letters and such......Smiley Very Happy

I hope your scores shoot to the moon!!!!
