Minimizing Damage of Medical Collection

Hi Everyone - Any advice on my issue would be appreciated. I am new to the forums and just beginning to acknowledge my situation. I had a bill from the hospital that was sent to collections, I ignored it, and was served a summons two weeks ago. The CA is "working" with me in that they will accept monthly payments over the next five months and then I will not have a judgment, but a collection account that is PIF. I tried repeatedly to get PFD - even for the full amount - and no way. My husband is also on the account now b/c Idaho is a community property state and he was named in the summons. Evidently I can't get that released either. My question - if all else is cleaned up - how much will this damage us in the future? We want to apply for a construction loan next summer. Are medical collections viewed differently than say, a collection for a cell phone? We're signing the stipulation, legal payment arrangement, tomorrow.

Re: Minimizing Damage of Medical Collection

In my experience- YES
Medical collections ARE treated different in the mortgage process.

Have you tried the OC?

Make sure you get it in writing that they have withdrawn the lawsuit.
