@Credit12Fico wrote:Sync snitched to the bureaus off cycle on my Paypal card...Not amused. I'm not sure what triggered as they typically only report on my statement date. They reported on my statement date, then reported 7 days later catching me off guard since I usually pay down to zero before the statement cuts. Rude. Now I'll probably have to wait another 3 weeks for the statement to cut and get an update. Untrustworthy lender lol.
Now my utilization has shot up above 30% on the card. Fortunately, I have a Chase card that I can pay down to zero to restore order...
Credit Karma is telling me to pay it down to under 28.99% (they've listed the exact payment amount to achieve this), so seems a general acknowledgement of the 30% individual utilization threshold improving scores in the Vantage system.
Edit: Thank you mods for moving to the right place.
Now I see, I believe it's a mid cycle payment that triggered my agony...They reported the same day I made the payment. This account was not new.
The exact same thing happened to me with my Amazon card, and they ended up reporting the wrong balance in mid-cycle.
I called them about that issue. They swore to me that it was not a problem on their end. By the time it was resolved it was right at the end of the monthly regular reporting time. Although it got resolved the question was why did that happen in the first place.
It happened again! (A second time in the same statement cycle). This time it was on May 28th! I didn't submit any payments, I have no idea what is triggering this madness! My statement won't cut until wednesday.
They reported me with 50% individual utilization. This is just utter madness. Unreliable lender.

If you want to both use their card and control balance reporting, yes, they are, tho, as has been said above, they apparently calm down after your card gains some age.

See but that's the problem. When the car was new, they would report my balance, any time a charge posted. They stopped after 6 months and went to once a month reporting for several months. Now they are back to this random crapshoot.. It's not reporting with every new charge that post, but it has so far reported two times randomly within this statement cycle.
Long time I ago (during my balance neurosis period) I've closed my only synchrony card for this reason.
While I never regretted closing it (wasn't very useful), I've also learned that sky didn't fall when they report off cycle.
Unless you're preparing for mortgage, there really isn't any harm in this.
They report, nothing bad happened, life goes on till they report again.
If you get into the situation where there is an upcoming important app, and every point counts, just avoid using their card once it reports zero untill application is finalized.
Synchrony is going to Synchrony, and while I understand frustration, it really isn't worth stressing over it, or over every single point.
If every single point becomes life and death issue, credit becomes the focal point in one's life.
It's a tool, not lifestyle, but full disclosure, took me a long time to simply let go.
I wonder if Synchony is thinking that by doing unpredictable mid-cycle reporting, that they are combating the AZEO folks, who are, as far as they're concerned, gaming the system? This line of thought would be that the irregular reporting more accurately reflects the average balance of the account, sort of like a pop audit.
Somewhat long ago, I counted cards and hopped around playing blackjack. Then, about 7 years ago, I started playing no-limit hold'em. I'm not an internet poker player, so now it's focusing on point minutiae in the credit world. There are many similarities in terms of theory, e.v. etc.
Is this just a normal thing now? Reporting off cycle. I'll go ahead and spare you all my anger and the *mod cuts* that would ensue...
Are they doing it because the card utilization goes over 50%? This is only about 10 days after my last statement cut at 0 bal. I've made no payments to trigger anything. I'm not impressed or amused. I was supposed to app spree today. Citi, Amex, BOA. They've ruined everything.
Is there a way to get them to update bureaus if I pay it off now?

If you placed a large purchase, yes that's typical Sync. They get my cell bill on Verizon, and that's it. I don't engage their trifling ways. They did that to me once, and now I don't give them anything.
The first two months, updates were 3 or 4 times.
Synch doing Synch, and well documented. 🤷♂️

Off cycle reporting likelihood seems to vary from person to person. It often seems like Synchrony will update balances off cycle if the card is relatively new. I don't believe Synchrony will update balances if you pay it off.
I have made multiple purchases with Synchrony cards and ran up utilization from 0% to 88% and have never had Synchrony report balances off cycle. So it is definitely a YMMV situation and there isn't a good way to predict.
As echoed up thread usually happens on a bit of a bigger charge. Usually on a 100 dollar credit they don't bother, but on say a 300-500 charge then they tend to report. What is the reason, who knows?
