Re: Synchrony Off Cycle...Again

As echoed up thread usually happens on a bit of a bigger charge.  Usually on a 100 dollar credit they don't bother, but on say a 300-500 charge then they tend to report.  What is the reason, who knows?

I think that certain 'off' transactions to trigger this. So silly that a $500 would spook them, though. They need a better algo and process.

If they send you an alert to ask if it's fraudulent, even if you approve the charge, expect the bal to report a few days later. This has been to case with each of my off-cycle reports.

In my case, I don't believe that dollar amounts have triggered this; it's the merchant. I've purchased thousands of dollars in store, and most recently, a few large purchases online. I was actually expecting it to trigger something, especially since I rarely used the card recently bc of real fraud disputes that I submitted through them. Submitted a $1,000+ charge, then a few similar charges. No flag. No reporting to the bureaus.

On another note, while I was disputing the fraudulent charges, there was mass confusion, which caused them to report a small bal that I didn't want reported. Because I let them know that my bal was incorrect, this triggered an update of my credit report. I just made sure that the bal was zero before I reported the issue to them. A supervisor also told me that I could request an off-cycle report, too, if the investigation didn't trigger the update. I believe that I did end up calling back and requesting it and the guy told me to wait about 2 biz days. It was updated. Good luck.

Thanks for the words of advice. I just made a phone payment of the whole **bleep** balance via debit card as I just wanted it GONE. I will call in tomorrow asking them why my card with a 0 balance has been reported with a balance that is not on my statement or in my activity. I will tell them that I plan to dispute with the bureau if they do not update. This is ridiculous. They completely screwed me. All of my Amex prequalifications vanished. I wouldn't get approved for a single **bleep** card today. I'm furious.

OP you are a genius. I've just gone back through my notes and I correlated the last 3 off cycle report dates (Twice in May) and once in July, with a fraud text message in my phone from Synchrony! Like clockwork!! Same exact dates for every single fraud alert! My last fraud alert was this past Tuesday. They reported my balance on tuesday!

If they don't accept my request for a manual update, then I will simply go to my nearest gas station, and absolutely hammer the card with 1 cent gas fillups until the card gets blocked Smiley Happy

Thanks. You and I had the same idea of beating them at their own game. 😁 They have a few frustrating processes that I've learned can actually be advantageous to the consumer if used properly.

Synchrony Care Credit off cycle reporting

I've searched (perhaps not hard enough) to find out information as to why Synch reported my Care Credit card balance off cycle ? If it's normal then, cool.

DP's

-opened the card late 7/2021 with a $1000 limit once I found out, after dental insurance, I'd owe an additional amount around $3100 for an implant etc. This is my first Synch card.

-Synch reported the new account $0 balance to all 3 bureaus within 3 days of being approved. (Still late July)

-Statment closing date was on 8/17 and it reported again with $0 balance to all bureaus.
-8/20 I had my procedure done and charged $950 to the card that day for a promotional payment term. Yes I realize it's 95% maxed and I have to deal with the consequence on my scores drops- but I was still left paying ~$2100 out of pocket for all this. So I don't feel bad for the temporary points loss on this balance.
-8/26 myFico alert notifies me that an account balance raised by $950 on TU (haven't seen it come across on the others yet). It WAS in fact Synch Care Credit. My closing date isn't until 9/17 so why did this report off cycle? (Note: I planned for $950 to report next billing cycle anyway as I start my promotional

terms- so I'm not mad about the balance reporting).

Any insight is appreciated as I'm not too experienced with Synch but I have read up on them a lot on here.

Yes they do it...why is anyone's guess. While I don't read of it happening a lot around here, it does indeed happen.

Thank you! That's all I needed to know. It's all good if it's something that isn't uncommon. 😃
