Need an expert to assess my situation!

TO THE EXPERTS ON THIS FORUM: I need your advice, please!  Below is a snapshot of my situation.  For the last couple of months, despite my efforts in cleaning up accounts that weren't mine, paying off most collections, etc., my scores are lower than when I started.  How should I proceed at this point to raise my scores.  Thanks in advance for your input! (Due to size limitations, I'm dividing this message into two posts).

Wait a little bit for your DV's, PFDs and GWs to do what they're gonna do.
Then - PFD and GW your heart out!

The majority of the debt originated in Maryland. The Maryland SOL for open ended accounts is 3 years. I currently live in Texas where the SOL is 4 years.

I have another question: For the last two years I have been making payments on two accounts that are past the SOL. Since I've been making payments, does this in effect cancel the SOL?

Re: Need an expert to assess my situation!

It resets the clock on the SOL, but does not affect the 7 year reporting period.

Re: Need an expert to assess my situation!

call your ags office & ask to apeak to soneone for info on consumer law (atate)....where I am they put me through to the banking dept.

The reason being ....this is what the law states ( Tx.)

The Texas Civil Practice & Remedies Code provides a 4-year limitations period for types of debt. The SoL begins after the day the cause of action accrues, (Section 16.004 (a) (3)).

find out if the cause of action begins again with pmts to a CA.  IF you are lucky it might go back to orig.DOFD.  BUT you need to know.

Re: Need an expert to assess my situation!

Good point.  I have checked into this for both Maryland and Texas, since I incurred most of my debt while residing in Maryland.  I currently live in Texas.  Here's what I found:

Maryland - The 3 year statute of limitations begins again if creditors can document that a debtor has reaffirmed a debt by a good faith basis by a written agreement, orally, or by payment.

Texas - The Texas Civil Practice & Remedies Code provides a 4-year limitations period for types of debt. The SoL begins after the day the cause of action accrues, (Section 16.004 (a) (3)).

when making payments for 2 years, where you living in TX ????  If so I would say TX law would apply.
Be SURE and check with Tx  as to restarting SOL.
