Need quick fix to get to 660!

I desperately need to gain 5-7 points QUICK.  We are going for a mortgage and it would save me a pile of money to get over the 660 hump.

Amex, opened 7/07, $57 Bal / $1000 CL - 6% util
Barclays, opened 7/07, $28 Bal / $500 CL - 6% util
Hooters, opened 7/07, $37 Bal / $1000 CL - 4% util
Target, opened 5/07, $0 Bal / $200 CL - 0% util
HSBC, opened 4/07, $0 Bal / $300 CL - 0% util
HSBC, opened 4/07, $94 Bal / $300 CL - 31% util (see below)

GMAC Lease, opened 1/07, $18111 Bal, no lates

Capital 1 - paid chargeoff (settled)
Capital 1 - paid chargeoff (settled)
USAA - paid chargeoff (in full)

Navy Army FCU - paid/closed auto loan - no lates
Navy Army FCU - paid/closed motorcycle loan - no lates

Progressive Collection - $92 PIF
Argent HFS - $2126 medical collection from 2002 - balance has NOT been paid

On the 2 Cap 1's tried GW - no luck.  The Progressive collection has been paid and I've tried really hard with CCS (Credit Collection Services) to get this taken off - no luck yet.  I've sent a DV to Argent HFS and a dispute to EX since they reinserted without certification back in July.  Also, I've paid off the HSBC $94 and disputed the balance to get 0% util updated.  I realize the new accounts are hurting me now, but will be good in the long run - also no lates on the current/open CC accounts.

Any suggestions on a quick fix?  Thank you, in advance, for you help!

Re: Need quick fix to get to 660!

Hi Heidi -

I'm not sure if this will jump up your points - it's hard to say with FICO, but this may help.

  • Pay off all your balances on your current cards (Amex, Barclays, Hooters, and HSBC with the $94 balance).  Don't close the accounts ( obviously Smiley Wink )
  • Did you send a GW to USAA?
  • Did you send a GW to Progressive Collection?

Right now the thing that's hurting you is the Argent account.   Has anyone (CRA, Argent) responded to your dispute?  What is the DOLA on the Argent account?  If it's from < 7/2002, you may be able to dispute to the CRA as "too old".    If you're not having luck with the Argent account, you may be able to negotiate a PFD with them.

The $94 with HSBC has been paid, and I'm hoping my dispute will update with $0 balance early next week.

Should I ask USAA to delete the account?

Yes, i've tried a GW to Progressive and the CA - no luck yet.

The Argent collection is for an ER visit when I didn't have insurance.  The date of service was 4/11/02 - although it is past the SOL, it's still within the 7 year reporting guidelines, right?

If you rent, get your landlord to make a report that you've paid your rent on time each month....to the credit agencies. Normally, they don't report anything unless you've stopped paying, or you're chronically late.

I don't know if this will help or not but one of the negatives MyFico gave me for my score, was not using my available credit.  I'm thinking if you put like $10 on each card and then have your lender do a rapid score, they may ask you for print-outs of you online account showing usage.

I belive 1-6% UTL is better than 0%, but I may be wrong.

Re: Need quick fix to get to 660!

FYI if you pay something off and you want it to update in a few days on you equifax report you can call 888 873 5796. Enter your confirmation number(you must have a recent report within the last 3 months). Tell them you are in the middle of a home closing and you need to do a rush dispute. You have to make that very clear otherwise they will do it as a normal dispute.  You have to also provide a phone number for them to call the creditor and verify the balance. They will ask for a name and number. Give them the number of the creditor and a name, if you don't have a name make one up and say they can speak to them or anyone other person at that number. The very next business day they will call and verify and the day after that it will update. But it can take up to 5 business days. But it beats the 20-30days normally. This is only with Equifax the others do not offer this service.
