Opting in to offers

Hello FICO Forum,

how do I, "Opt-in" to general credit card offers? Is there a link that I can go to for that? The reason I am asking is because when I try and pre-qualify for Chase cards it states that I may not be opted into credit card offers.

You can opt-in / opt-out here^^.  It takes a few weeks to kick in.

Also - that chase message doesn't actually mean you're opted out - they say that even if you're opted in and they just don't have any offers for you.

If you've never opted out, you're likely already opted in...  but you can opt in again, won't hurt.

Re: Opting in to offers

Chase has told me the same for the past year. I've probably checked their pre-qualified offers 4 or 5 times and says the same thing.

@thornback   gave you perfect advice to follow.

Re: Opting in to offers

The process of opting in or out does not, per se, control whether or not you can still get offers for new credit.

The FCRA proces is a limited procedure that allows potential creditors to obtain pre-screening thru the CRA of consumer files to provide only the names of consumers who meet the prescribed screening criteria.

The process involves placing a restriction on the CRAs that blocks them from including your name and contact information in listings they produce as part of the so-called promotional inquiries process under FCRA 604(c), which only blocks creditors from receiving such listings from a CRA.  It does not bar sending of offers based on their obtaining your contact info from any other source.

If a potential creditor, such as one you have or previously had any relationship has your contact information, they can make unsolicited offers for credit that are totally outside of the opt-out process.

They just dont obtain the prior pre-screening against specified screening criteria that is the purpose of the FCRA process.
