I have NEVER been late! How should I deal with this? I was not charged a late fee and I may be overreacting...
I had logged in and swore I made the payment but apparently I didn't.
How will this reflect with NFCU? Can I beg them to remove this as a one-time courtesy?
I'm quite ashamed.
Well, if you were only 2 days past the due date then you have nothing to worry about as far as a late notation being reported on your credit reports -- you have to be 30 days past the due date for a late to be reported.
As far is NFCU is concerned, it may have lowered your internal score with them a bit... but you caught it early so should be able to mend the relationship damage (if any) within 6 months time.
Things happen sometimes -- Good idea to set up autopay to pay the minimum on all of your accounts to prevent these types of mishaps.
I dont know if NFCU assess the fees for late payments.
If they do, either pay it or call and explain it was an error and see if they will waive it.
I doubt anything bad will result from it, may put a little dent as far as internal risk score goes, so it may or may not affect increases or new apps in the near future.
It's really not the end of the world, and sky wont fall.
You should start the auto pay to ensure this doesnt happen again.
Most lenders will get over an isolated event. If it repeats itself, it might be a different story.
You'll be okay.

NFCU gives a grace period before they actually even consider you late from my understanding. If they didn't charge you a fee, you weren't late in their eyes. IIRC, you're late if you haven't paid your minimum by the time your next statement is issued.
Also, if you paid 2X your minimum the previous month, you may not have even had a payment due. Check your statement to make sure. I have no payment due this month because they automatically let you skip every other payment if you always 2X or more.
Take a deep breath. You MAY be charged a late fee, maybe not. It definitely won't report to credit because it wasn't 30 days late. Just take a deep breath and make sure your payments are on time going forward and I am sure Navy will be just fine. Auto pay is a great idea, even for just the minimum payment.
