Re: PayPal Mastercard Dispute - Not Sure How to Proceed

Sync stopped doing mid cycle reporting after the first time, they don’t mind you paying early, they just report the first time you put a balance on the card so if you didn’t put one on when you opened it, they report it when it’s opened, then they report it if you use it during that first statement cycle, then it’s normal statement reporting (7-8 days after statement closes so not necessarily statement balance) after that. I have paid before and after statement and it doesn’t change their reporting, it’s just funky the first month because they apparently want to make sure that it’s reported you used the card for something.

Dispute statements don’t negatively impact you at all. Capital One did the same thing to me a few years back when I put in a dispute for charges on my card. It shows AID (account in dispute) one month and the next month DRG (dispute resolved by grantor). Worst case scenario it’s not being used for FICO score calculations this month but that’s about it.

I complained about Synchrony’s reporting when I got the card too. They will report the first time you put a balance on the account immediately and then they will update it paid about 7 days after your statement closes so if you time your payment to zero right, you can avoid them reporting a balance when you don’t want them to.

That said, it’s not worth micromanaging. I decided that my PayPal card will be my balance reporter if I decide to do AZEO again but AZEO is frustration that’s unnecessary unless you have a mortgage coming up in the next 60 days or so since it has minimal impact otherwise and it likely actually hurts you with other credit apps because it looks like you’re not using the credit you have been given.

The PayPal has become my favorite card now, I definitely would have been kicking myself if I closed it over Sync’s first two months of reporting.

Agree with this.   Plus, if the comment DID negatively impact, closing the card wouldn't make it go away, any more than you can get rid of lates by closing the card.

Hmmm. Sync does report new accounts very quickly, within a day or two after approval, but I don't remember them reporting a balance on the first charge, but it's possible I missed it. I do have a habit of using new cards right away, a terminal swipe at a local store (after activating), to reassure them know that it was really me & I got the card, then its online I go . . .

If you’re not actively micromanaging your card reporting, it’s very easy to miss since notifications only come through for the new account. I use WalletHub and I tend to actually check every day so I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that both my Amazon and PayPal reported $0 and then turned around and reported my first charge.

In the case of the Amazon card, they actually turned around and reported AGAIN when I paid off that charge but PayPal it stuck around until 7 days from the statement closing and I used my card on the 5th day assuming that Sync was like every other card and would have already reported just to have them report the new balance and tick me off for another month 😂

Re: PayPal Mastercard Dispute - Not Sure How to Proceed

Do you all think that the dispute will impact my ability to request a credit limit increase with Synchrony?

Someone else commented about their limit being raised from $300 to $7k quickly. How long did it take for that to happen? Has anyone else had a good experience with their PP Mastercard limit being raised quickly?

In the month that I've had it, I've run about $7K of charges through it, and paid them in full immediately. It currently has a $5K limit but I'd like to see it go much higher so I can make it my primary card.

Re: PayPal Mastercard Dispute - Not Sure How to Proceed

There won’t be any effect on your ability to get a CLI. You’re looking at the dispute note on the account and coming to negative conclusions for no reason. The same notation can go on if you have fraud and they have to investigate charges you disputed. It means nothing and will be removed when the dispute is closed.

As for CLIs, if you feel that your profile supports it, you can make a call to Credit Solutions and ask them what they can do now. Getting them online seems to be 4-6 months with the PayPal card but online it caps out at $10K so if you need more, you’re better off asking Credit Solutions. It’s a SP so it doesn’t hurt to ask even if it’s denied.

Re: PayPal Mastercard Dispute - Not Sure How to Proceed

I had never heard of Credit Solutions until you mentioned it just now. I looked it up on the forums and it seems like an interesting option. Should I go ahead and ask even though the account is new? In case they review my credit, my TransUnion score should bounce back to 740 after the $0 balance from Synchrony is reported. Like I mentioned before, I've run about $7K through the card in a month, so they might be interested in raising my limit. I just assumed it was too early to ask, especially with the dispute on the account.

Re: PayPal Mastercard Dispute - Not Sure How to Proceed

They likely can’t legally do anything until that dispute is resolved but once that’s closed, I would try for it. You obviously have the spend and the means so they may be open to it, just don’t want to set your expectations too high because they have stricter UW for their majors than their store cards. You might have to wait the 4-6 months or you might not.

@saeren I believe you are correct as far as FICO scores are concerned. It's late and I'm tired, but I do believe there are multiple threads concerning applications being flagged due to an account in dispute.

OP, reporting dates are a big frustration when we are trying to squeeze out every little point we can get. I know! I can't quote chapter and verse, but they have thirty days from your payment posting to report the new balance. They are much faster to report balance increases than decreases. Some banks, like US Bank report on a particular day. US Bank reports on the last business day. Statement date matters to some and not to others.

It's one of my favorite cards, too! Now if only they'd increase my limit over $700. I've been trying to use it as much as possible so I can finally get it up, but I know it may take some time. I did open a lot of accounts in a short period of time and that's something to be concerned about from a lender's perspective. I'm going to try another CLI request on Monday and we'll see what happens!

I think I've found the sacred map that may lead me to this garden everyone keeps talking about.
