Some CRAs include yout telephone number on your CR. I have just seen a case where EQ has not included a phone number on an individual's CR and that person was denied credit because their phone number could not be verified on their CR.
Any ideas about that?
It does happen but there are other ways for a creditor to verify information. Some say you must have a home phone and not a cell phone to get credit.
Borderline discrimination.

We just attempted to put our phone number on our EQ report (land line that we've had for 20+ years). We did this through myFICOs dispute process, as the process itself encourages you to give EQ your phone number. We also removed some old incorrect addresses.
We got a form from EQ showing that they had fixed the addresses. Under "phone number" they said that they no longer report phone numbers.

I've heard this before as well and seen it discussed in the forums.
My daughter and future son-in-law recently bought a home, got a mortgage, etc. Each of them have a cell phone. Never had a land line. They both had (fairly) strong credit files.
I often wonder if the "phone number" issue can be an easy reason for not granting credit.
I don't know the answer...but, no...you don't have to have a land line in order to get credit. Maybe just certain creditors.

I just got an e-mail from EQ with the same thing.
I wonder how a creditor can decline your application for something that is impossible to accomplish?
When I said "some say you must have a home phone.....", I was talking about the creditors. And I have been denied because I did not have a verifiable phone number. They have to be able to call directory assistance and verifiy you have a phone in your name. You can not do that with a cell phone.
I just had my home phone disconnected. I do not see the point of the expense in maintaining one when I have a cell phone.

Sure, I understand that. But this creditor specifically stated: "Your telephone number could not be verified on your [EQ] credit report." How can they decline you for that when EQ doesn't allow you to add a phone number to your CR?
Yes, that is exactly what they said to me! How they can do it I do not know.
I do know that EQ gets your personal information from creditors. There has not been a phone # on my EQ for years and I always add one when I feel out applications.
I do not want a phone number on my accounts. Since the information is sold to 3rd parties. I have yet to Opt out.

The credit bureaus each told me that I had to have a valid phone number on my credit report to be allowed to have the fraud alert.
If EQ told you this...did you ask them WHY they no longer choose to list phone numbers?
