Please, crying for help -Score changed 24pts last week on paid derog 8months ago

Can anybody help with this question? (EQUIFAX)
There was a derog from 5 years ago 2002, It was paid and account (7th Avenue) closed in July 2007. Somehow this closed account triggered an alert in January February and 2times in March 08. Both times it read " changed from balance n/a - n/a". The 2nd alert in March on 03/12/08 I also had a score LOSS of 24 points referring to the alert 7th Avenue.
I have called several times about this score LOSS and each time I get a different story why it changed. The first agent told me that he believe that it was a IT problem, Computer error and then after speaking with 2 Supervisors, I got all kinds of excuses.
Can somebody tell me if it is possible for an account to be paid and closed 8 months ago can trigger a score change of 24 points. I try so hard to get to the 659 and now they have taken 24 points. I checked my report up to yesterday and they have the credit alert but have removed the score alert completely.
Anxiously await advice.

I recently got a score alert and all that it was, was an "update" of the status to "n/a" from "n/a" or something like that. I lost a few points.

I sometimes wonder if a bug in the EQ's scoring model views any update to a collection as a "new" collection.

Have you checked your actual FICO score to see if there was a change. Quite possible there wasn't.

Hi stungie, unfortunately this is very common. What happens is the account updates, which in essence, brings the baddie more recent. The CRTP doesn't change, nor does the SOL change from this, but the system reads it as more current. Stinks I know, but that's how the system reads the information. Sorry for your loss (...of points that is). See if they can change the status back to eight months ago, since it was an IT glitch. See what they say to that.

may be a very good argument for some good will on thier part. have you tried the good will approach before? perhaps stating that thier it error in the letter will catch thier attention? good luck!

Does FICO scoring model view it as a "more recent" also? Or just EQ FAKO scoring model?

i think it just gets dumped into the "recent collection activity" area of fico scoring. the fico ding even happens if you actually pay an old collection.

Re: Please, crying for help -Score changed 24pts last week on paid derog 8months ago

Just be sure that the na to na was the cause of the score drop. It might have triggered the alert which also updated a new score change. 24 points is a weird number for na to na.

This can be a frustrating situation. I had the same thing happen where my score was bouncing up and down from na updates from a bank. Always up then down then up and repeated this same score change. Finally I made them delete the account from my CR. You might be able to contact the lender and tell them what happened and see if, because of this if they will be willing to delete the neg or remove the account.
