Re: Please help, FICO improvement.

TBR:

My recommendations:

1.) If you have cash on hand, write PFD letters for all unpaid collections and offer to pay 50% (or less)of the balance. The CA may say no we cannot legally remove the account from your CRs (not true of course), no we don't delete, demand you pay more or PIF or if your lucky, they agree to your initial offer. If they agree to delete but demand the balance be PIF, take it if you can afford to. The goal here is deletion as far as your FICO scores are concerned. A paid collection reporting does nothing to help your scores. Be friendly but persistent. If it does not work the first time wait awhile and try again. Make sure if the CA agrees to PFD it's on their letterhead and in clear English (American is alright too). If you are not sure paste their letter in the forum and wait for some feedback from other members. Here's a link for PFD letters.

2.) Try writing GW letters on all late payments (FYI, this can also be used for paid collections, judgments). Same thing here, be friendly and persistent. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Here a link for GW letters. I suggest you personalize them.

3.) Forget credit repair services, DIY and save money! I wouldn't apply for anything until you get some good results. I'm not one to recommend sub-prime CCs with lots of fees, high interest rates and bad customer service.

"We'd like to buy a house in 2 to 3 years"

I'm just curious, would you buy a house sooner if your credit was better sooner?

Re: Please help, FICO improvement.

fused111,

1) I have a plan to pay all debt by year end. I have returns coming from the IRS and state, that should allow me to take care of EVERYTHING. I ran up the bills, made the problem and have no real objection to paying in full, with the exception of one medical bill of my wifes (another story). I will work to get the PFDs going out the door over the weekend.

2) Will do, but I don't really understand what the motivation for them since I closed all CC accounts.

3) Thanks, I will do my best to get my head around it.

rifleman,

Why, you got a house for sale? No... Kidding.

I think we want to wait the market out. That, and I want to have significant down. I live in a very expensive market, and saving for any real down will take time.

Thanks

You have nothing to lose by sending out GW letters. If successful, your scores will improve.

OK, Great!

Lets use this one CC as an example, as I have several accounts that look similar, this being the worse.

As you can see, I have the 30, 60, 90, 120, CO thing going... Its paid now, account closed. What can I do about that? I don't think the GW letter really will work in this case. The account is closed, I'm not a customer to them any longer, and don't see any reason they would be likely to want to help.

They may or may not want to clear the lates up, but it doesn't hurt to ask. At worst they say no and you're out $.41. I just recently sent out GW letters, haven't heard anything back. I made sure to thank them for the help they gave me in the past and said that I hoped that I would be a customer of theirs in the future. We'll see if they're successful - if not, no biggie.

Good luck!

The motivation could be that they're very tired of receiving your letters every month Smiley Wink

Re: Please help, FICO improvement.

OK. Got started with the good will letters, and hit a stupid snag. Who do you write them to? I doubt it will get far just addressed to the company headquarters with no department or individual. Should I call them, ask for the ??? department, and get a name? Thanks TBR

Re: Please help, FICO improvement.

You can also try GW letters via a website called planet feed back. I have no experiance with the site but it has worked for some (but not for most). Just don't post your letter for all to see.
