Positive Account Deleted

I disputed an account with Equifax that did not belong to me. I have very limited credit which means the only activity on my credit report was the account I disputed and a loan which I have had for the last year that I have paid on time every month. As a result of the dispute Equifax deleted both accounts even my loan that was a positive account. My score went from 609 to no score. I have been working to establish some credit. I recently was approved for two Comenity cards using the Shopping Cart Trick, but they have not started reporting yet. Will my positive account reappear when the loan company reports or will it never come back? If it does reappear will it show all my payments? I'm so aggravated and overwhelmed. Especially since my score had just jumped 31 points, now nothing

Re: Positive Account Deleted

How did you do the dispute?  Phone or online?

This is always a risk, and it's one reason I always do my disputes by mail, USPS, certified -- specifically detailing which account I'm having an issue with.  I never, ever dispute over the phone because the CSRs aren't that knowledgeable and have a tendency to screw things up.

Unfortunately if they've blocked that account from your credit report, it may be gone for good.  It's possible it'll come back after the dispute is over.

If you do any disputes online or over the phone, stop and switch to written/typed letters by mail.

Re: Positive Account Deleted

I did the dispute online, I have also sent in another request asking why was it deleted. Will the two cards that I have already used and paid the balance on produce a score for me? Do you think I will start back in the 500s?

Re: Positive Account Deleted

Yes once those cards report you'll have a score once the oldest is 6 months old.

Disputing online or via the phone is dangerous.  It's not a good process for rebuilding so do the responsible patient dispute process -- by mail.

It's possible they'll return the account to your reports, but don't get your hopes up.  If they do, they do.

If you don't have an installment loan, make sure to sign up for the Alliant SSL (in my 11 rules signature link) THE MINUTE you have a credit score again.  That's an easy way to add 20-30 points to a FICO score if you don't have any loans reporting.

The goal is 3 credit cards + 1 SSL loan and you'll be in better FICO range.

Blessing in disguise, you're now free to default on the loan.

Re: Positive Account Deleted

Equifax does this kind of thing all the time. They are the worst credit bureau when it comes to security and continuity. They deleted a few positive accounts for me in the past, and I never got them back. However, I think if you ask for their Consumer Affairs department, that they can look into the issue for you.

You may also fax a copy of your previous credit report - showing the positive tradeline - to the Equifax "Mixed" department, at 888-826-0571. Be sure to include a brief letter detailing the account that has been removed incorrectly. It's good to also attach two recent utility bills, as well.
