Protect child's credit

What can I do to protect my grandkids credit reports? In this day in age with identity theft how can I put a freeze, alerts for them? Is there something different to do for children? They are both under the age of 5.

Re: Protect child's credit

Since they are both under 5, I would doubt that they even had a CR.  You do not get one till you have applied for or received credit in your name.  Minors are the responsibility of the guardian or parent and if something does not get paid, say like a doctor bill, it should be in the responsible persons name, not the minor.

Re: Protect child's credit

I was wondering if a "stranger" were to steal the child's identity. How can one protect the children from identity theft. We know this is already happening to children, just watch the news, read the news paper. How this happen I can not understand. Wouldn't someone realize the identity belongs to a child based on the SSN alone? Somehow this is not caught. Unfortunately the child usually will not know until later in life after the damage has been done. There must be a way to protect the children.

Re: Protect child's credit

I would think you could call the CRA and talk with them to find out what you could do.  I agree, there should be a way to protect anyone from identity theft, especially minors.
