I want to make a big purchase and put it on my Costco citi card for the rewards. My due date just passed and I paid the balance. The statement end date is the 2nd. If I put this purchase on this card now, and pay it off right away, what happnens if the payment doesn't hit till after the 2nd. Will the charge go to the current statment of the next month statement? I'm watching my mortgage scores do I don't want to carry a balance on this card into the next month.
If you're worried about your scores then you probably should wait a couple of days to be in the clear.
Most lenders report the balance as of the statement closing (US Bank is a notable exception, as they report the balance on the last day of the month). The due date usually has nothing to do with reporting, unless of course you missed the previous one (or more) in which case that factors into 30+, 60+, etc. lates.
For most lenders, if the charge is still pending at statement close it will appear on the next statement (Amex is kind of notorious for quickly finalizing charges made the last day of a statement cycle LOL). If a charge is finalized on or before a statement closing date, it appears on that statement. So as long as the charge has finalized and payment has cleared and been applied to your account by the statement closing, it would not be reported to the credit bureaus (unless it's a lender that doesn't report the statement balance, such as US Bank).
