Question about Freezing CRs

Okay so after pulling my DHs report (and mine) to start rebuilding we found a charge off on my DHs report that he never had (we never even heard of company) disputed it came back verified. Finally received copies and papers on this account and found out that his mom or grandmom opened the account. What happened was it was a catalog that went to his moms address under his name telling he was preapproved. They filled out the order form, checked that they wanted it charged to his preapproved account, received the stuff and never paid. It funny because all they had to do to open the account was check yes (that they wanted it charged to the account) and place the order. This catalog company didnt ask for a social, signature or anything. Both me and my DH lived at his moms for about year but we have been moved out for years which we have leases and other papers to prove it. This happened 11/2013 (during the time when DH and his mom wasnt speaking) he has asked his mom about it numerous times and each time she lies so he is filing for identity theft!!

Okay so while DH is filing for identity theft I froze my reports because I also lived there for a year and didnt want to take any chances. If they could do that to their own son then im sure if I got something they would do it to me, but my question is how does freezing my reports affect CLIs? I want to make sure I get my credit limit increases since im rebuilding but scared now that my frozen reports will affect that.

Its so sad when your own mother or grandmom opens a fraudlent account in ur name!!! My husband was so confused with what to do but his only option is to file identity theft. He even gave them the benefit of the doubt and kept asking (they dont know we have the papers proving it was them) they just think we seen this charge off on his credit report and want to make sure they didnt open anything up in his name thinking it was in their name but they just keep saying no, saying they have no accounts opened at all and never ordered anything (they have crappy credit)

Thank you everyone in advance and Happy Thanksgiving!

Re: Question about Freezing CRs

Are you referrring to a fraud alert, which is povided for under the FCRA, or a freeze, which is covered by state laws and CRA procedures?
