First, I'm so glad I found this website, my husband and I feel now we can get our credit on track.
Here's the deal. We had a car repossessed in a bankruptcy and I'm assuming they sold the car and are charging us the difference. It's about $5,000. It's is showing on our report as not paid as of 2003, that's the reported date. SOL in my state is 4 years. So I called the company because I really didn't know if it was included the bankruptcy or not. Well the company with the debt (Conseco Finance) has gone bankrupt and was sold to this new company I was talking to. She said she couldn't pull up anything, had no information on my account, and that I should dispute with the credit agency.
My question is is this what I do and how would I go about this? Since the company is no longer and I'm past my SOL, what do we do? Are we obligated to pay this?
I would post this on the bankruptcy board too but it seems more busy around here.
Thank you!
