Hey all, was wondering if someone could shed some light on my situation -
So first the setup - I had basically perfect credit until accidentally missing a payment due to life hardships leading to me forget to verify my autopay bank account with First Tech Credit Union. I got the autopay situation sorted out and got my account current, but by then it was too late as the missed payment got reported and my score dropped like 90 points. I then sent a letter to them requesting a goodwill adjustment per suggestions on here. The slightly longer version of this story is here if anyone wants more details:
So anyway, today on Credit Karma when I checked my score - all of the sudden my Equifax score was back UP by 90 points and it said that I had a "Remark Added" by First Tech, however it *still* shows I missed a payment with them. Likewise mint.com shows my Transunion score back UP 90 points, but still a missed payment. What happened?? Like, was my goodwill letter successful? Should I celebrate? Or is this a fluke and my credit score is going to just drop again in the future? All the threads on here I saw about remarks being added seemed to say people's score dropped when this happened, so I don't fully understand how this works. Any insight would be helpful! Thanks!
You would need to check your FICO scores as you can't base anything on vantage scores . I highly doubt adding a remark will improve your score if the late is still showing .
Ah good call. FWIW I also just checked and my Experian Vantage score provided by Chase and it too went up 86 points from last month. So all three bureaus have jumped way up according to the Vantage model.
It looks like Citi gives me access to my Equifax FICO score which has not been updated in July yet, so I should know in the next couple days if it has moved. Fingers crossed - I'll update when I know!
That said, my question still remains why it seems the remark gave all of my Vantage scores a big boost...?

If it were me, I'd take this opportunity to request the current 3 free CRA reports at annualcreditreport dot com. Looks like maybe it's in process with at least "1" of the 3 to remove the late pymt per the GW. Just a hunch 😊

When the lender adds the comment "disputed by consumer, investigation in progress," that account is temporarily removed from being scored. You will lose the points again when they finish their investigation change the comment to "investigation completed" if the late payment remains. This is why mortgage lenders require all dispute comments to be removed from credit reports before pulling your mortgage scores.
**bleep**, well that burst my bubble! I dug more into Credit Karma and did find a detailed section where it lists the remark as "account information disputed by consumer." Ugh. It's so frustrating a single missed payment in 20 years of perfect history tanks a score around 100 points and it doesn't fall off for 7 years... seems like an overly harsh drop that doesn't accurately reflect credit worthiness, especially when one can see I didn't miss any payments on my other dozen accounts. Guess we'll see what happens next month when the remark is likely taken off.
@Bobcat37 in this credit scoring system, the "higher you climb , the harder you fall" - meaning a late payment on a really perfect credit score can have a huge negative effect . the way the system works is so flawed - its like you have to be perfect every single month , cant make one tiny mistake for the rest of your life smh
I personally think First Tech is completely full of crap. Something similar happened to me. First, there was confusion about the first month a payment would be taken out. Second, I had autopay and notifications enabled on their website, but they were not working for some reason. Basically what happened is my first payment was not due in the month I was told. I told them what due date I wanted, I guess it would have been too far our for my first payment to be due the next month, so they made it due the same month I started, or one month after I started instead of two. It was something like that. The only reason I caught it was because I logged into the account for something else, and I noticed a payment already due, and I paid it. The next month, I get a message in the internal messaging system, that I did not pay when the payment was due. I forgot how long after the due date this was, so I went ahead and paid it. I found it off that I did not get an email or any find of alert or notification on my phone when the payment was due or missed. I checked my account, and I was setup for autopay and notifications. The next month the same thing happens, but I'm so busy I didn't notice the message or the e-mail from them saying no payment was made until I got a 30 day late on my credit report. I reached out to them to let them know I was not getting notifications, and I should have been on autopay. For some reason on their end it was not showing enabled. This hapened another month, so I decided to turn both off and back on, and that seemed to fix the problem. But I reached out to them about removing the 30 day late, and they gave me the same run around they gave Bobcat about submitting a request to have it adjusted.
They also suggested that maybe I have the credit reporing agencies remove it from my report, since they have more control over what is on the report. I do that, and a couple of weeks later I'm locked out of my account because there is an ongoing dispute. I can't get in to make payments or communicate with them about the internal request to adjust my report. This goes on for about 2 months. I've called them twice during this process. They advised me to use the 3rd-party pay service ACI which allows you to pay with debit instead of ACH. They never offer to just take the payment over the phone. I try to use ACI but because they have esentially suspended my account, they also can't process payment against the account number, so I have no choice but to send in my payment. They never commonunicate with me that the account is back active. Getting any e-mail from them is the only reason I tried to log into the account after not being able to for almost 2 months. In the mist of all of this , by the time they cleared the check I sent in the prior month, there is another 30 days added to my report. So, I go from a score almost in the 800s to the mid to low 600s. Even despite this second one basically being their fault they give me the same run arund with the second late. I go back to the agencies again. TransUnion removes the lates, Experian does nothing, Equifax completely removes the account from my report. Two months later despite the issues with notifications and autopay now resolved, I noticed that the two lates are put back on TransUnion. I eventually get two letters from them each saying that their perspective invesitgation found that nothing was reporting in error. I actually e-mailed the CEO of First Tech asking him what the policy is on courtesty adjustments, and I guess I have no choice but to try and get it removed from the other 2
Will the remark automaticall be removed or can you try and get it removed? I have another loan on my report that does not appear to be updating. It's in good standing. I'm working with a lender who says their approval process takes a look at how much others have lended you. I'm guessing only the ones in good standing, but they won't consider this loan because I opened a dispute asking for the balance and payment history to be double-checked. They won't consider this loan in their calculation as long as there is an open dispute. I'm just wondering once the dispute is closed out, will it show that I once disputed it. They probably won't care, but it's just a throught I had.
I once tried to compare missing a payment to a batter striking out once. He his still a star. A fellow poster replied it's more like cheating on your SO. You can be faithful for years and you cheat one time. The trust in you is now gone.
