Removing Duplicate Inquiries

Last year I purchased a new car and again this February I purchased an additional vehicle. I noticed that when the car companies submitted the credit app to the numerous companies like they do one specific local credit union always pulls twice on my credit report. It is the same credit union but the only difference is I am assuming the branch. This happend to me when I directly applied for credit from them, they local branch pulled and then on the same day their local main office pulled again. Can I request that the CB remove one of the inquiries that happen on the same date? This will remove about three inquries from my report.

Starting Scores (5/2014): EQ 569, TU 601, EX 589
Current Scores (07/08/2015): EQ 640, TU 640, EX 654
Goal (12/2015): 700 across the board

Re: Removing Duplicate Inquiries

Be cautious.

Realize that having them removed will not improve your score since they were for a car and were done at the same time, the score impact is the same if its 1 or 10 or whatever.

Since it doesn't affect your score and anyone doing a manual review of your report will see they were at the same time, why bother disputing an inquiry?

Keep in mind, the number of inquiries has a very small impact on your score. Also keep in mind that disputing inquiries almost never turns out well and can have an impact on future real disputes that you need to get taken care of. I have no prove, but there is some anecdotal evidence that the credit bureaus put a marker in peoples files when they complain about inquiries when the inquiry is even half legit.

Save your fight for things that matter.

The issue with inquiries tends to be more when you have a lot that are spread out over time, giving the appearance you are constantly shopping for credit. Underwriters don't like to see that (some don't care).

Re: Removing Duplicate Inquiries

I just recenttly asked about the same thing and basically from what I have read on here and great feedback from long time members is that Inquiries play small a portion of overall CR that focus should be dedicated elsewhere.

Here is copy of what I asked...believe the thread is under the forum (Understanding Credit Score)::

In reading the Son of Credit Scoring thread, the below information was provided:

Mortgage & Auto industry has special rules for inquiries: all applications for credit resulting in pulled credit reports within a 14 day period of time will only count as one inquiry & will be suppressed from affecting credit scores for 30 days. So if you plan to go shopping for a mortgage or a car, do your research first picking what companies you want to apply with and do this all within a 2 week period of time so that the scores are not affected too much.

I know that Inquires only make up a small % of your overall score and then after a year they become even less important plus surely my efforts to rebuild might be suited elsewhere....but I am stubburn and really want to acheive a clean CR prior to applying for a mortgage next May.

So with that being said. when I pull my CRs from CCT my inquires are EX 7 / TU 10 / EQ 16

Now I did 2 Auto Loans one on 2/6/15 and 9/30/15 and they are reporting as such:

2/06/15 Auto Loan        EX 2 / TU 2 / EQ 4

9/30/15 Auto Loan        EX 3 / TU 3 / EQ 9

Is there any recourse I should be taking with the CRAs or am I simply being too much of a nit and let time take its course?

A few things here:

Inquiries (properly coded) within a window (14 days for EX2, longer for others) count as one for scoring, but are still listed individually on reports.

Inquiries no longer count for scoring after 12 months, but are still listed on reports for 24 months.

Your inquiries from 2/6/2015 are not being scored now, and by next May when you apply for a mortage, the 9/30/2015 ones won't be, either.

Re: Removing Duplicate Inquiries

As for multiple inquries in the same day, the FCRA places no limit on the number or frequency of inquiries.

If auto, mortgage, or student loan inquiries, the scoring implications are zero, as they only count as one.

If you are concerned with the manual review impact of the inquires, you can always contact the inquiree and request that they recode the duplicates as soft, thus essentially removing them, as soft inquiries are not seen by others.

Thanks so much for the info! I did not you request them to recode inquiries.
