Re: Removing outdated information

This particular account is the only closed account that shows a remark "closed by credit grantor".  My understanding is a  remark like that can cause issues even though it is 11 years old.  I have other accounts that are closed that go back to 1995, with no remarks and are listed as closed paid as agreed.

Your last post (above) seems to say that there is only one closed account that you'd like to see deleted.  But earlier in this thread you suggest that there are multiple accounts you'd like to see deleted.  So I admit to not knowing for sure what your situation is.

But that doesn't matter, I guess.  Certainly you should feel free to contact the CRA and ask them if they wouldn't mind deleting whatever accounts you'd like.  They'll probably be willing to do that, though I can't be sure that it wouldn't trigger the deletion of all old closed accounts (including some you might not want deleted).

Before you do it, it might be interesting for you to start a different thread, where you bring up the issue that is driving this: namely that you are wondering whether an old closed account with a comment of Closed By Credit Grantor could be harmful to you in some way, even though its status is clearly positive (Paid As Agreed).  I think that would a really interesting thing to hear people chime in about, especially if you could give links to the places where you have heard it could be harmful.  I would certainly follow such a discussion with great interest.

If it's a closed account in good standing I would think you'd want them to keep showing as long as possible. Brings up the AAoA.

Re: Removing outdated information

OP, correct me if I'm but are you assuming that because the acct states "closed by credit grantor" that it's a bad thing. That is just there for reference and has no effect on scoring. Some debate that under manual review it may be looked down on but in my experience that's not the case. Lots of reasons a closed acct might state that, not all of which are bad. For example accts get closed for lack of use, the product is no longer supported, bank goes out of business, ect... As long as there's no negative info associated with the acct like CO or delinquency's than it's best to keep it on your report. AAoA and age of oldest acct have a very big effect on scoring. Having that acct is a good thing.
