I live in NYC and recently sent a letter to the clerk of the court asking for documentation for my public record, a paid judgment. It's been about 3 weeks and I have not heard anything nor received anything. I wanted to make sure everything was filed properly.
At the time the judgment was initiated, I was so unnerved I didn't pay attention to making sure I was properly served and that the CA had the correct information/backup. Now that I've been on the MyFico boards, I want to make sure all the i's were dotted, etc. because the OC that the CA was collecting for was taken to task by the NYAG for practices regarding marketing and billing around the same time.
I want to determine if I should have been sued at all considering I was not notified as per the agreement with the OC and NYAG. (More here)
Is there a proper way to do this besides sending a letter CMRRR? Thanks for any help.
Sometimes the fastest way to get legal records is by physically going in person to the place where they are kept. Might this be an option for you? Biggest downside of course is that you might need to take time off from your work to visit the place during office hours.

I agree with MattH. One trip to the courthouse is all you need.

The court clerks office in NYC is really slow. Also, for copies of any documents you have to pay, so it's likely when they get around to answering your letter it will just be to tell you that you failed to send payment. I'd go down and get what you need in person.
The good news is that if you feel the judgment was entered in error, it is pretty simple in Ny to attack the judgment. The court clerk's office can usually direct you to where you can find a template for the proper motion to file.
I sat right here on my computer and did this last week. 5 min on computer, no wait, no gas, just click. Actual copies of the original docs emailed to me in less than 24 hrs. Not instantaneously, but real EASY. Sign in as guest.
