Scottrade checking account--hard pull?

Does anyone know if I open up a Scottrade checking account, if they will do a hard pull on my credit report, trying to avoid hard inquiries?

I have a brokerage account with them, maybe 10+ years, but was inactive for a while and back then I used to be able to write checks, but seems a few years ago they separated out the checking feature, now need to apply for it if I want the checking features.

For a checking account?   Don't know for sure but seems rather doubtful; haven't used Scottrade but the vast majority of brokerages just pull for margin features (higher level options, etc) is my understanding.

I called Scottrade, the rep said for opening a checking account it is a soft pull since credit is not extended but for opening a margin trading account it will be a hard pull.
