Slow but steady progress thanks to everyone on myfico!

Started out in the mid 600's two years ago due to 3 baddies, only 2 TLs but in good standing (one old student loan, one new personal loan) and not a single credit card.  My scores are up close to 700 as of January but just stalled there.  Want to wait until all my baddies are gone before I buy FICO scores again to see how great they are!

Now things are looking better.

Good stuff:

1) closed in good standing paid off student loan that will report for another 8 years

2) $5000 personal loan down to $1000 and always in good standing, but only a year and a half old

3) my first credit card in many years at $5000 with a zero balance and I make sure to PIF every month.  CC is 9 months old

4) only bad thing is that a few positive old TL's have aged themselves off my reports after their 10 lovely years of good service.

Had 3 baddies from 2002-3003 that are changing too.

TU shows a Palisades and a Midland collection.  Both listed as "factoring co" with 120+ lates the (*&*^*%$#)

EX shows the same as TU

EQ only shows the one Palisades collection but listed the same way as the other CRAs

----Woo hoo!  first of the oldies is now off all three reports.  That Palisades ages off in December of this year and Midland ages off in April of next

Hard inq

TU only has one that will age off next year

EX has 5

EQ also has just one but is 12 months old.

I'm finally just about ready to apply for two new credit cards to help my utility out and a store card to help out the mix of credit.  I still can't believe I actually WANT to own a credit card after so many years of having no use for them at all.  Well I still don't have much use for them other than how they can improve that all important FICO score.

Now if I can just get through to those two collection companies to REPORT ACCURATELY OR DELETE, I'd be a VERY happy camper.

I wanted to thank everyone for all I've learned (and still learning) from to all the posts on this board and especially in Rebuilding Credit.

Thanks for all the good info!

My update as of this morning is that Midland is finally going away asap!  Woo hoo!

Now I'm really rev'd up to get rid of Palisades.
