Re: So my cat is in labor :)

Well, this isnt quite having kittens, but kind of cute.  I took a my cat in to get her spayed and found out that she had already been!  Pretty good news.  Only cost $8 for the rabies shot.  Poor thing, though, had withheld food and water for hours and she got her belly shaved!

Demi-
That is like the best/worst story ever! I am laughing with the sickness of it...

Just made me remember from my childhood:
My little brother was about five and had a hamster that was really sick (had the green butt & all) and my Dad gave him the "son, I think Hammy isn't gonna make it.." talk. He tried to soften the blow by telling my bro that we could have a little party to remember Hammy, with cake and ice cream and all. My bro got teary for a minute, then looked up all sweet (blond, curly halo of hair...) and said "Well, then can we kill Hammy now?" HA

OMG!

As for cats...........well I've never (to put it nicely) been a cat person. Could NOT stand being around a cat.

Just before Christmas  year before last the people on both sides of us moved and let their yards grow up at the end of the summer and left their houses(going through foreclosure) sit empty. Field mice started to become a problem so we got a kitten.

Let me tell you.......this is my BABY. Somehow he got outside about a month or so after we got him and the dogs got ahold of him. I rushed to the animal supply place and bought him meds and bandages and packed food and water to him until he healed. It was BAD. You could see the flesh.

I was the only one who could touch him.

This cat climbs in the bathtub with the kids if we dont' keep him out of the bathroom when they are bathing.

My son had just turned 2 when we got him and he let my son do ANYTHING to him and wouldn't hurt my son.

As for the spouse...........well my cat better never see us touching in bed or someone gets in trouble.

Re: So my cat is in labor :)

LOL sidewinder. I have always been anti-cat, but my DH, the big bad Marine stops and ooohs and aaahhh even when there are "wabbits" or "little quack-quacks" on the side of the road. He is a TOTAL cat person. I don't even like small dogs.. they quiver too much!
I have learned to become a cat person by default Smiley Happy Of course, any mother that sees another mother, cat or otherwise, in labor connects in a special way. I sat by both mamas through their births, even helped the runt start breathing when it was still icky & gooey. In that aspect, I definitely outweigh DH as a cat person. He doesn't "do" kitten births...

Re: So my cat is in labor :)

I'm new to this and (like lots of others) just had to go to the 'sidebar' of So my cat is in labor Smiley Happy???  You'll see (from the hour of this post) that any Baby Boomer who runs a biz from her home, manages properties for Mr. and his siblings, is planning a 3-part-wedding (legal vows, then Dominican Republic ceremony, THEN reception in hometown)  for one of two college students, manages the household...all laced with corporate issues daily (to the point I've told my kids, "IF, when you have your own children---you can afford a nanny or au pair---you'd best get one for your Paperwork!)   ......anyhow---you'll see that I need to be asleep...BUT just had to say this:  the story of your brother & Hammy gave me the best laugh I've had in DAYS!  Thanx (from one animal lover to another)!!!!!!  Hope all are well!  ni-night, Eema

Re: So my cat is in labor :)

My hamster story is far less traumatic than the previous two.  His name was Chris (I guess it was a him).  I had him for years, I think he died around age 5 or 6.  I should have named him Houdini of course since I was like 4 when I got him I didn't think that way, but he could esacape from ANYTHING except those wire cages.
I remember saving up for an "escape proof" cage.  It had lots of tunnels and hiding places and was super colorful.  Green, yellow, red, blue.... well, he got out.  Ate right through the **bleep** thing, then ate through my closet door (wood).  We searched everywhere and couldn't find him Smiley Sad it didn't help that it was that time of year, where I had to pack up all my toys and old clothes in giant black trash bags to send to the local childrens shelter.
About a week after he vanished, I found a little can of barbie food.  You gals and parents of girls know the type tiny hollow plastic "can" with whatever label on it.  Well something had chewed the top off of it.  A few days later there was a 1/2 a plastic carrot by the closet door.
I don't remember how long it went on, I think about 3 wks or so, but he finally came out during daylight and we caught him and put him back in the WIRE cage.  All was well for another year or so until he passed.
Not only could he survive on plastic, but he had our cats whipped.  Two were afraid of him, and two would cuddle with him and clean him then fall asleep haha

And I agree, we want pics Ivy!

Re: So my cat is in labor :)

My goodness this thread has me missing our 3 lil furballs!  Lol

I've never been a "cat person" either...but I am the biggest SUCKER for a stray needing some food, water, ...yada yada yada.

My oldest son, when he was 17 brought home a farm kitten unknowingly to me.  Had his lil bro and sis in on the plan to *make it look like it was a lost starving kitten* to Mom.
I fell hook line and sinker and only learned of there scheming ways months later.

Then comes Lucky.  My daughter heard her in the garage meowing, and later hubz went out and retrieved her.  Been told she is a blue point himalayan.  So we rescue her and get attached.  She started getting really fat and lazy so we figured she was prego.  Had 2 different birthing areas for her that she always liked.....but no...she had to go all the way to the basement and have them on my daughters bed!!!!

We gave all 3 away at 8 weeks but boy were they sooo darn adorable and I miss them!  Just don't tell my kids that cuz I'll deny it!  lolol

Best recent cat abuse sceen in a movie - The Prestige.

Sorry but someone was bound to say it so it might as well be me.  Hope it doesn't cost me too many FICO points.

Re: So my cat is in labor :)

I'm a sucker for precious wittle fuzzy wonderfuls myself...  Might have something to do with why I have nine indoor cats (all fixed, rescue or shelter kitties), and am feeding (and periodically trapping and fixing) about 8-12 feral cats.

Between the indoor cats and the husband, I don't have to keep the heat very high at all!

I'd love to see pix of the babies!
