Re: This post has me shook

I’ve emailed the director of card management/services, (highest I could go), and got no response, I was given her email by VP of card services.
I’ll be filing that complaint against the FI today... I hate this bank with a passion now!

Also I moved out everything minus like $88 that I was going to use to pay my credit card

That doesn't sound legal. The EFTA is pretty clear on what a debit card dispute resolution process is. I would get in touch with both the consumer protection office in the state where this CU has its head office and with the FTC and/or CFPB. I wouldn't expect much from the FTC but the CFPB or the state office might be more helpful. Of course, if you are dogged enough, you can also talk to an attorney.

You can go higher harder and nastier.   A few good posts in the right places works wonders

Found this https://complaint.mycreditunion.gov/Complaint/

I’ll file a complaint with the NCUA tomorrow, and the Federal Reserve, currently in talks with an attorney.

It sounds like the CU is talking directly to the merchant. They shouldn't be doing that, just reverse the charge and the merchant can make his case in mediation/arbitration. And when they say the merchant "has a DL from Florida" I assume they mean the merchant is claiming he checked ID and noted the DL #. A DL# is no proof the DL had a picture the person making the purchase but your name and address, which is highly unlikely.

Just my opinion, so take it for what it's worth: I lived in Vegas 1999-2005, and Vegas has a much higher rate of con artists and fraud than other cities. People blow into town and lose all their money in the casinos and get desparate to figure out a scheme to get more money, convinced if they just gamble a little more they'll win all their money back and then some. Fools will be fools. I'd be willing to bet the merchant and the "customer" are in cahoots, while your small CU is just panicked at the prospect of loosing that much money and are handling things badly.

Agreed with DaveInAZ, the CU is small and that reversal would cost them a lot. Sounds like they know they screwed up allowing the purchase to go through and know they’re on the hook for the money, and don’t want to pay up.

Please update as more results come through, and definitely blow up their publicity using every tool of consumer protection and advocacy, and every avenue of social media, that you’re able to use. They already appear to have a fire under their feet - throw some gas on it.
